its an air intake temp sensor. after you remove the factory box just tie the sensor to something close to the new air cleaner. mine and many others are just like this.

I just did the conversion on my 01 X.....Very easy.

Start by removing the old air filter cover and filter. Then I removed the battery from the driver's side and unbolted the lower air box battery support.

With that removed from the truck it safer to start triming what isnt needed anymore. Remember that the batter used a little nub on the back side to hold it down.....dont remove this. But you can remove alot of the material around it.

After you have as much removed as you like reinstall the battery support into the truck and re install the battery.

I zip tied the air temp sensor to the brake lines right behind the old air box.

Remove the intake restriction guage from the top of your old air filter box and drill a 5/8" hole in the end of the new air filter and install the gasket that was in the air filter box and install the guage.

Then Take a piece of 4" exhaust tubing about 3 1/2" long and put that between the new air filter and the intake tube. I used a constant torque strap on the filter to make sure that it was sealed completly.

Start it up and listen to it Prrrrrrr.

P.S. Here is a nice website with photos of the most common powerstroke mods. Welcome to guzzle's 6637 Filter Restriction Sensor Web Page

Ordered my RiffRaff 6637 kit!

I get points for resurecting old posts right?

I just wanted to tell someone (besides my wife who just doesn't get it) cause I'm kindof excited about it. Ever since I bought the truck, I've not been happy about the K&N. Yes it flows good but it gets dirty SO DAMN FAST. I hate cleaning it, worrying about whether or not I've got good oil coverage, and just having to take so long for a "simple" filter change.

It's due to be cleaned AGAIN...So... I bought the RiffRaff 6637 kit today. YAY! (happy dance)

I'm looking forward to peace of mind and an easy $30 filter change next time I need one. Oh..and I get to update my post signature.

That is all. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Sooo...
My RiffRaff filter kit arrived. Looks awesome! I'm excited to put it on. BUT... I currently have a K&N filter kit that I'm replacing so I don't have the stock air intake hose. Anyone have one? Willing to trade the used K&N kit for stock hose. Or buy the hose. I'm hoping someone may have take the stock one off at some point and just has it up on a shelf, forgotten. :D

I'm in the same boat, guessing your K&N looks like this.

I had the Tymar on my 96 and will go to something similar soon.
