Well his advertising the fact that he's running an 'untaxed' fuel didn't help matters.

But if you read carefully, the state mentioned that they were trying to remove the $2,500 dollar bond for small fuel users.

The moral of this article and many others is to stay under the radar.

Also he was fined for veggie oil use, not biodiesel use. Big difference between biodiesel and running just straight veggie oil.

I think this is old news. Mabe I remember someone else having this problem as well.

Do the electric people get fined? What if I powered my truck on steem heated by wood? Do I get fined?

That is completely fightable in court. They go after people like that because they can and they bet on the odds they will just pay the fine. This also makes other people not do it because they think they will be fined.

I filled up in Danville, Va yesterday. Diesel fuel is 36 cents per gallon cheaper. 2.539 vs 2.899 in Durham. Whats next? Is NC gonna use a special dye and if you have out of state purchased fuel you will pay a fine for that too? This is just plain wrong on a lot of fronts. I will make it a point to buy as much fuel from across the border as possible from now on. Gas is 20 cents cheaper too. NC is really being stupid here. Its not like he is not paying tax on his fuel. He is just paying NC sales tax instead of fuel tax.

And I thought being an entrepeneur was a good thing encouraged by the highest officer in the land. Preserve your dwindling freedoms, don't put biodiesel stickers on your car.

i completely disagree!! NC should have thrown the book at him!! if you read the article, the NC fuel tax goes into road construction. just think of all the damage that his 1981 Mercedes is doing to the roads and he's not paying for it!!!

and soon enough, you'll have a whole-bunch of Mercedes running the roads, ripping them up, and not paying a dime for it!! i bet if you had about 20 other mercedes traveling the road and not paying for the damage that they are creating, they'd have the roads so torn up that they're impassible inside of 3 months. it's true - i did the math:

[1981 Mercedes x 20 x (Road Destruction value) + $0 for construction/repair costs] / (Road Destruction + repair rate) = 89 days!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

man, i can't believe the nerve of this guy. you NC'ers better take care of your roads. have you seen the roads here in SC?? me thinks there are a few Mercedes running around here that aren't paying their taxes either. that's the only way i can explain it....

go get'em, gov't !!!!

OTH trucking does more damage to roads than any passenger car. Many trucks sneak past the weigh stations grossly overloaded.

105,500 on the cab? Please, I've seen trucks pushing 130k or 140k if they can get away with it.

Neither does road use taxes in NC. Type in "tea pot museum" into Google and see where NC spends fuel taxes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

BTW, The road I live on has been tore up for years by logging trucks that pay road use taxes and NC still does not fix it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

whats also messed up is as they fine him for using non taxed bio diesel....north carolina state also has a hand full of vehicles that are powered on bio fuels that don't pay taxes on. Hell there is a whole school system in Gaston county that powers their buses on the schools old fryer oil. Nobody pays attention to them? even though they get publicity.

That doesn't count. That is a government avoiding paying government taxes. Like off-duty police don't get pulled over for 30+ over. You can see where my post is going... I'll stop my rant now and let you imagine the rest.

Actually they should be Tax Exempt anyway. Do you want your tax dollars going to pay taxes on their fuel??

Right - most school buses, municipal trucks, etc. run dyed diesel legally.

Schools are not exempt from Federal taxes. Maybe state, but not Federal.
