Hi All Diesel Peoples,

I am trying to learn about Ford diesel engines and was wondering if there was some sort of cheat-sheet that explains the different diesel engines that Ford has put into their trucks and vans?

PowerStroke?
IDI?

And so on...

I have a 1992 Ford Bronco that I want to convert to diesel, but I am the type that likes to know a lot about what I am getting into before I do it.

The Bronco has a 351W/automatic, but I want to go diesel/manual tranny. It is 4WD and I al also moving up to Ford Sterling 10.25 rear axle/Dana 60 front axle.

Anyway, right now I need a brief rundown of the engines. Want to also know which ones were typically turbo, etc.

Many Thanks to all,
TAZ

Pix from a member here dropping a 6.9 into a Bronco.

Do a search in the 6.9 forum for "+Moosestang +Update". Go back as far as they'll let you (almost two years, I believe). You'll get several updates from Mel's journey. It's in and done now.

I've seen Mel's Moosestang at some of clubs events. It looks like a factory install. If I remember correctly he got a 250 donor truck and swapped parts. The front coils from the 250 fit right in. In talking to Mel this past weekend, he gets several emails about the swap. Keith

Eithor go 5.9 or build the 351 to a 427. The 427 stroke kit is awesome

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry, I must have have misread him saying he wanted to convert to diesel. I'll try to do better next time.
The 5.9 would be an option if a straight bolt up is not necessary. Of course he also asked for a history of Ford diesels. The 6.9 is the best choice for reliability and ease of transplant.

Maybe it was just your 69 that blew.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
