I have a 2001 f650 with a Cummins 5.9, afs5306a tranny. What options are available to get an overdrive? Considered putting a 6613 in that I have but the bell housing is unique on those trnnies and attempts atlocating one has been useless.

try the spicer 7spd. [6+1] version is an od, and fairly common..

will this fit what ever bellhousing the 5306 is tied to now or will I need to procure another?

sorry for the late reply. i dont know for sure if it would swap directly in or not. there may be the need for a different bell houseing/clutch set, but likely not. mediums are pretty good about useing the same componet's from truck to truck. a friend of mine went from a spicer 5spd to a spicer 6+1[7spd] ,and all he had to do was shorten the drive shaft a bit. this is something you will have to research, quite often a reputable trk salvage yard can give valuable info, and the tranny you seek!!

That info is a closely guarded secret in this area, must be like the directions to the Holy Grail. Either no one knows or they think I'm too dumb to understand what they say.

OK, on another note, since overdrive is a bit elusive right now, what is involved in swapping out the gocart wheels/tires that are on there (19.5) for some real tires/wheels? I would like to use a 22.5 like the other F650 uses. Been led to believe that cutting a wheel and recentering it would be the easiest way. Cannot belive that swapping the whole axle is necessary to do this.

Wheels Should be a direct swap. What's your bolt pattern?

Give specialty truck in San Jose, CA a call. Tell them you want to talk to someone about a trans for your F-650. They know there stuff and they are who I call first most of the time. There are truck wreckers and have a full gear shop.

No, the wheels are that goofy huge 8 lug pattern.
Since everyone on the east coast seems to dummy up when you call and ask for a trans to do this swap I'll call your guys on Monday.
Could you pm me their number?

what about a ring/pinion swap [3rd member]. many wrecking yards offer takeout's, some will take trade ins as well. could be a easier cheaper way to get where you want to be...

It has a 3.42( I think) ratio now, that is, I have been told, as tall of a gear as that axle will fit.

not to be rude, but what is your reason for wanting an od? most of my brothers low pro wreckers have 19.5 tires,5spd tranny's, and 4.30 or 4.88 gearing, with those combo's [either/or] they run down the road pretty well. with 3.42 gears, your's should be a regular speed demon i would think!

at 65 it turns 2700rpm. My thoughts are that for better fuel mileage it should only be turning 1900 or so at that speed.

Did you get a hold of either of the companies I posted links to? Your better off calling them direct as there E-mail response is usually pretty slow.

YES! i sent an email to the one with no 800 number listed, Chris from there called on Monday- no FSO 6 or 7 speed, but was quite helpful on wheels.
The other place had no trannies either, said i was looking at $4k if I did find one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Thank you for those links, I'm sure more than just I will get some use from them.

Glad I could help. They always helped me when I was dumbfounded. And took the time to answer my dumb questions. Let us know if you get the wheel thing worked out. I could be useful info for others also.
