I took my front driveshaft apart to replace the ujoints and encountered a few issues. First of all, the driveline has 3 ujoints in it other than the standard 2. No parts house had any friggin clue as to which ujoints went in it. After a little trial and error and 2 runs to the parts store, I found that the ujoint in the front of the shaft is different than the 2 in the rear. The one in front has 2 1-1/8 Caps and 2 1-1/16 Caps. The 2 in the rear of the shaft have 1-1/16 Caps all the way around. Now my problem is with this little bearing that is inbetween the 2 ujoints in the back of the shaft. I beleive it is called a cardan joint? Not sure of this though. I wound up losing one of the needle bearings inside their when I took the driveshaft apart and haven't the foggiest clue how that bearing comes out of there to replace it. Anyone had any experience with this joint? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

You've got a double-cardan driveline, it was an update on some F-250's that had a bad vibration with the regular single-joint driveline. Have your parts guy look up the driveline for an F-350, they came standard with the driveline you've got.

I'm assuming you lost a needle from where the nipple in the center of the cup rides? That is a ball socket, and it has a ring around it that screws off. After that you can pull the ball out. That's how you get it out. But you can replace that whole thing.....not the whole joint but the piece that rides the back of the ujoint with the ball in it. I bought a few of them for my mud racing truck at my local drive train shop. Any shop that is near you that builds driveshafts will know what it is and be able to get the parts for you. Hope that helps.

YES!

That is exactly what I was talking about. You just saved me a ton of heartache! Thank you. Unfortunately this will have to wait until Tuesday since today is a holiday. I will try to get it apart later this morning./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

Tried to get that ball socket apart and found no evidence of a threaded cap. The cap that was on there was just lightly pressed on and came off fairly easily. The ball socket still will not come out of there. There is also a set screw down towards the bottom. Not sure what it is there for. Guess a trip to the local Ford shop is in store tomorrow and see what they know about it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

If it was me I would take it to a local driveline shop, have it rebuilt and balanced, then reinstall it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
