Looked at a 2000 F350 7.3 automatic 4x4 167k miles pretty clean, some "minor, totally normal rocker rot for this year truck..." but everything else was clean. Very clean. Anyways the cruise control, power mirrors, and door locks don't work. All gauges, overdrive, electric 4x4, horn, power windows, power seats and everything else does work. Airbag light is lit on dash. Related? Fuses are all good. Any ideas if that stuff I mentioned is all related to one problem or what could be the culprit? It has a plow, an aftermarket stereo with amp and some other bs. I hear the click on passenger side from locks, but they don't work. Oddly enough he doesn't have key to unlock doors. Can I have one made at local lock smith?
Next question, the truck shifts a bit hard into second gear sometimes. I drove the truck for about 30 minutes total and it only did it 2-3 times. In high rpm like getting on highway or up to speed it was ok. At low speed low rpm I could feel it shifting. It does have a programmer perhaps that could be why?
Lastly, there is a "clicking/ticking" sound for lack of better word coming from the right side while in driver seat. It is hard to hear in passenger seat though. It sounds like an exhaust leak, but its hard to say. Consequently he noticed it after installing a turbo back exhaust. The driver side manifold was replaced, but his mechanic said passenger side looked good. It can really only be heard under pull while driving, but he did rev it up for me and it sounded to me like it was coming from turbo area. Best case scenario it is a leaky connector where he attached the exhaust, a pipe coupler, or manifold leak. I would like to know what worst case scenarios could be? Would a bad head gasket make a sound like that? Would a tired diesel motor develop a tick much like an old Chevy motor would? It only has 167k miles and was very well, almost meticulously maintained by previous owner, this owner and his mechanic. Mechanic said the valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. Is it possible the noise could come from that? He is including new valve covers and breather. He seems honest and did a lot of work to the truck so I feel as though he is telling the truth, but who's to say. I know you can't see or hear anything I've mentioned, but I'd appreciate any input. Thanks, Glenn
For now, I don't want price to have any sway in your advice.
