I am new to this site as I am currently seriously considering trading my 2002 Dodge 3500 Cummins dually for a new Ford F-350 dually. I belong to the TDR (Cummins version of TheDieselStop) and have read about problems with Dodges and Cummins. I personally have had problems with my Cummins (performance and lift pump issues,) so I realize no powerplant or vehicle is perfect.

However, while I love the Cummins and the truck performs well now (pull a 8k tag w/ NASCAR asphalt modified racecar,) my family has outgrown the truck (interior wise). I have checked out the new Dodges AND Fords (don't care for GM styling,) and have come to the conclusion that Dodge just doesn't offer what I want anymore: a TRUE crew-cab, long box, 1-ton dually w/captains chairs. They have the new Mega-Cab, but that is a semi-crew-cab, short box, non-dually.(Kinda a soccer mom/pretty vehicle type of truck, not a practical working truck)

If the Ford were to offer a Cummins in a F350, I think it would be GREAT; HOWEVER, they don't. But, I currently have NO reservations about buying a 6.0 Powerstroke. As with the Cummins, I have heard GOOD and BAD things about them.

I personally think Dodge has fallen behind in styling, interior and exterior options, ride, and just overall looks. (LOVE the Ford styling!)

If I could get some honest feedback on purchasing a new Ford (PLEASE - No DOOM/GLOOM responses,) I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any responses and sorry for being long-winded...

I have had no problems with my 05 so far at almost 24,000 miles. The Ford has much more cab room than the other brands, which is one reason I have the Ford. Be prepared to change the shocks because the FAKE Ranchos are not adequate enough for a Ranger. Other than that, you will be happy with the Super Duty. If you prefer the Dodge, they are coming out with a new crew cab with tons of rear seat room. I think it's called a Mega-cab if you do a search. (It might be called a mega crew) Good Luck with your decision.

Missed the part about the dually, oops! I guess HE DOESN'T HAVE A CHOICE, does he? He will be happy with the Ford, as long as it's white with the tan trim on it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mod, the styling of the Ford is great. Plenty of room for the family, rides nice for a one ton, and handles well on the road. My only complaint is the powertrain in my truck. I have an 04 with the 6.0 and auto trans. For some reason the dealerships cannot keep it running. I am sure this is an isolated case, with as many problems as I have. This is my third Ford diesel, and the only one I am not happy with. I am sure now, Ford has some more of the bugs worked out of the 05 and 06 years. I personally will not buy another 6.0...just from the bad experience. Instead, I will wait till the next year and get the 6.4 with a manual. Good luck and let us know what you buy.

Well, I don't usually talk about my 6.0, since on here it has almost gotten to the point that some people consider it unacceptable for someone to be happy with their 6.0, but I love mine. It makes tons of power, great mileage and is the most comfortable 1-ton there is, bar none. So in my opinion, you won't regret the switch.

Got over 10,000 miles on mine now and no problems at all with motor or auto tranny. Remember, Ford sells as many or more of these trucks than Dodge and Gm combined, so you are bound to see some complaints, simply because of the large number of Super Duties sold.

Well I moved to an 05 about a month ago and I am happy so far. I had a 99 dodge, granted it wasnt a diesel, but none the less a good truck. When I was looking, I did take my time and compare and test drive and test drive again...salesmen hated me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif The styling of the ford is awesome. It is amazing that dodge got so far behind on this since they are the ones that revamped the styling of trucks in the early 90's. I do like the interior of the dodge though especially with the option of the navigation system built in. But the extra room in the cab ford won and overall styling. I think all the big 3 have issues and you definately will hear about them on the internet. I got an xlt, would have opted for the lariat but wanted the black leather. Dont ask me why you cant get black leather in a lariat. Makes no sense to me.
All in all I think you will be happy with the ford, just dont be a guinea pig and get the 07

Joc,,,I was talkin about him already knowing about the mega cab,,or what ever it is,,, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
Hey BIG GREEN,, I know there are MANY very happy 6.0 owners. NOT KNOCKIN them at all,, Teamroper60 loves his a ton too,, I know.
Along with a bunch more I am sure. This sight usually brings out the unhappy owners,,,and for every ONE of them,,there are probably 100 or more satisfied ones. Would I NOT buy a 6.0? cant say that. Will I consider the 07 when they come out? hmmmm Sure tempting...but the problem is,,, Brand new truck model = less mods available....ROFLMAO!

Yep, I know. PLUS the mega cab is only available in swb and single axle, at least initially. I shoulda picked up on his requirement for a dually. I sure missed a lot on his post /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Golly, I must fit in well on this website. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just got my 05 a month ago and it's great! It tows nice and rides nice as well and the turning radius on the truck is awesome. It used to be a real pain to turn around with the trailer in our back yard and now I can just whip the truck around and drop the trailer no problem! For a stock truck it's got real good power as well.

You will give up some fuel economy going with Ford. Dodge (Cummins) builds a better motor, but everything else considered I stick with Ford. I have owned a couple of Dodge Diesels and a few Fords. I dont think you can go wrong either way.

I did over one year of looking and test driving. Always took the wife, kids and dogs for space research. Im 6'2" and didnt fit the Dodge at all. Looking left I would hit my nose. The back space wasnt very good, and the kids heads were right on the window. Didnt like the fit and finish of the Dodge but love the engine. (Price was muchbetter than Ford or Chev)

Been a GM man for 35 years. Always said I wouldnt own a Ford (Found On Road Dead) if you gave it to me me.

The Chevy had more comfortable seats by far but I was looking used back to 2001 or so and the interiors other than the seats were CHEAP. The style sucks, and the fronts are just flat ugly. The stupid looking wheel well treatment is a turn off, and I knew NOTHING about duramax. Everyone knows about the 7.3

The Ford was a no brainer choice. Looks, space, well known and tested engine company, etc. I love the thing.

Downside is my crew longbed is a BEAR to try to park and turn. Gotta leave many fast food drivethroughs alone. lol

Actually, I get about 14-16 around town , 17-18 highway and about 12-13 towing a 8k tag. It has 4.10's and I tow IN overdrive above 50-55 mph.

I want to say THANK YOU! to everyone that replied back to my post. It looks like "TheDieselStop" members are the same as those on the "TDR(Turbo Diesel Register)" - Honest!

I have decided to go ahead and pursue the purchase of a '06 F350-Lariat-CC-LB-Dually with a bunch of options. Seems the only snag is that the market for used trucks is low due to all of the auto companies offering "employee cost" purchase plans along with interest rates being real low.
ANYBODY trading a truck right now will take a beating on trade-in; question is, how much of a "beating" will one accept in order to get a new truck?
Again, Thank You to all that have responded....

i agree fully. i didnt buy either of my dodges for their ride, looks, etc. in fact, i think the new king ranch is a much better truck all around. since i pull heavy every day i bought them both for the cummins under the hood, period. like you, i think a new king ranch with a 5.9 isb would be the ultimate truck. i always wanted to swap a b series into my f350 (linked in my signature) but the cost just made it a foolish venture for me.

honestly i think it boils down to what you intend to use it for. ill probably get hammered for it here, but i just dont like towing heavy in these montana mountains with a v8 diesel. the torque curve of the isb is so predictable that i believe it to be the superior choice for hard work. if i didnt tow heavy every day, i would definately get a new king ranch.

if youd like to see a very thorough comparison, Click Here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
