I have a 1988 Ford L8000 single axle dump truck, has the 7.8l Ford diesel and manual 6sp transmission. The motor has issues 1. Alot of blow by 2. The oil pressure drops to nothing after it gets warm. I know the motor is sleeveless and therefore machining and throwing a bunch of money at it. I have a friend that bought an old school bus 88 or 89 model that has the 6.6l Ford diesel it runs good no by blow doesn't smoke. He said I could have the motor because hes going to park the bus in the woods to hunt out of. So my question is will the 6.6 just drop in and bolt up with changing anything ? And I know it's less horsepower and torque but this is a little single axle truck I'm not going to be working it hard every day and putting big loads on it.
