my wifes family just gave me a f250 2 door 4x4 powerstroke straight drive with 10300 miles been sitting pretty much all of its live still looks brand new beside paint faded. I have it running have changed fluids filters. I never owned one and i will be pulling a 30ft travel trailer all around the U.S what should I do for premium performance to start with to get best fuel mileage and to take care of it

Intake, exhaust, maybe chip if you want to spend the money i got a ts6 and it added about 2 mpg. Also be sure to grease everything up before a long trip and i would probably drive it around for a while to be sure the bearings and other stuff are ok.

I agree with jmadigan, grease everything and use it as a daily driver for at least a couple days to make sure it doesnt have any cramps. As for mods i agree with Jmad again see my signature for more details (intake, exhaust, gauges, chip). I recently drove from Florida to West Virginia and back and i averaged a little over 20MPG and i was not babying it.

You never have to buy a kit for any upgrade if you have the ability to put the same parts together yourself.

It all depends on your abilities, tools available, budget etc. Mine is the SD cooler with a modified spider from an IH school bus T444 (same basic engine) and pipes I built with a combination of Hypermax pipes and exhaust bends purchased from Summit Racing.

There's a TON of information on the web on how to intercool these trucks. You can search Google for "OBS Intercooler" to see many examples of how to do it. It's not a power added, but is a supporting modification needed for mods that do add power and raise EGTs.

The best "upgrade" you can do to any old, used truck is MAINTENANCE. Find the Ford schedule for that truck & engine, and read through it a few times. Then catch the truck up on anything that might not have been done.

^^^^ This. Not necessarily the "best" upgrade, but certainly should be FIRST on the list. Too many guys buy these trucks, want to mod them up right away, but without addressing any deferred maintenance issues. Mods to a truck that needs maintenance can often mask the symptoms of those issues, so the problems persist. Generally - fix now, mod later. And with rare exception, when you buy an OBS PSD, there's always a "fix now" list.
