Hi Everyone,
My 2001 7.3Lt Powerstroke needs a new engine harness as it is breaking down with age (a bit like me I guess) could anyone recommend where I should buy one. I'm in Australia and Ford want my firstborn for it here. Thanks for any and all replies.

Message googs on here. He lives in Australia and might be able to give you a hand.

I have a harness from a e99 but unfortunately it's used and won't work on a 01.
I can't imagine Shipping to Australia either!

I'm surprised they even have one to sell you. There are about 6 variations depending on configuration (AC/No AC, dual or single alternator, etc.) For the price of a new one, you could almost reconstruct it from scratch. :(
I had a spare from an engine I got from a salvage yard and basically gave it away to a fellow TDS member. It might or might not have worked.

This is one of Fords part # F81Z12B637FA. I don't know which truck it goes to. The original part was International/Navistar. If you look at your harness near the IDM i believe there should be tape wrapped around the harness that will give you some #'s. If you can't read it, carefully unwrap it. There should be a second printing underneath. Hope this helps.
Looking for one myself.

Ford would never stock each configuration in service. They would stock one harness that would work in every configuration.

I've seen several different Part #, in a variety of price range $500-$600. Was wondering what the difference was in them?

I couldn't tell you. I am not a parts expert. My guess that they are for different engines or transmissions.

You 're probably right. A harness with AC and dual alts should work for non-AC and single alt. But they are also year specific. I think the alternator wiring moved around a bit on the 42 pin connector. Even if it was incorrect, a relatively handy guy with the connector pinout diagrams could move the circuits to the proper place to match what the body harness needs.

The IDM would be on the body harness, so that number won't do much good. There is usually an International PN for the engine harness on a tag just behind the upper alternator connection. With that number and this: http://www.thedieselstop.com/faq/9497faq/download/Ford_IH_Parts_Interchange.pdf, you should be able to match the part number.
