Hi guys. My names Rob and i figured this would be the best place to ask. My wife and I are currently looking into getting a traveling job that would make us more money than both of our paychecks combined right now. The only downside is we would be living out of an Rv for a few months out of the year. We have an Rv lined up that we like and it weighs about 10,000lbs. I currently have an 86 k10 with a 6.2gm which isnt going to do the job hauling it around. Does anyone know of any good tow rigs that arent too old and to expensive. i dont wanna spend more than 20k-25k. Thanks for the input in advance guys

First, be sure about the "about 10,000lbs" that it actually won't weigh any more than that. If its a fifth wheel, that is awful light...
You should probably be looking at a 350/3500 SRW truck--20k should get you a nice 2009-10 model. No matter what, you will be buying a used truck, so do what you can to know its history.

I have a 2002 f250 7.3 4x4 that I tow a 12,000lb triple slide fifth wheel with with no issues. I have 300k miles on my truck and would not hesitate to hook up and pull it across the country right now. If I were you I would find a 99-03 7.3 f350 with under 250k miles for 10 to 12 grand for a tow vehicles. They dont have all the EPA crap on them and cheaper and easier to work on. I would pay 20g for one under a 100k miles on it. The 7.3 motor will get 500,000 miles on it with ease if maintained.

I would definitely go for a pickup like in the 2 upper posts which have "modern day" diesel power. I just brought back a skidsteer from Billings, MT that weighs a little over 7000lbs. on my 4000+lb. gooseneck flatbed and that was about all the weight I'd want to pull with my trusty '91 over the grades. And like Wingnut60 posted, verify the trailer weight, people used to complain all the time in Trailer Life magazine about ALL trailers weighing much more than the sticker weight.

Whether you are an experienced RVer or a newbie, you should check out my articles that are published on www.thisoldcampsite.com . This is a hobby & nobody makes any money with this website. We just enjoy helping other RVers. I've often said that, with the exception of wrecks & fires, I've made EVERY mistake an RVer can make & when I do, I write an article about it.
Let me know what you think.
