I just got my truck about a month ago, and the tailgate step was an option that was on the truck that I wanted. I did not think it would be that handy.
It actually turns out to be quite nice for climbing in and it is pretty sturdy, it doesn't flex with me on it and I run about 250lbs. It kind of saves the knees a
little.

Step

I really did not want the option but the tailgate step and handle are very nice. Very sturdy. I have had a couple people on the step at least 350 pounds without a problem. It is a perfect seat and the step is great to rest the feet. Great for loading and unloading. You will enjoy it. The camera is nice if that option is on it.

Mine doesn't have it... but that is the first question everyone asked me when I got my '09... "Does it have the tailgate step?!?"

For us older farts, this tail gate step is the best thing ever. The only down side I see is if a rancher/farmer hauls alot of hay or dirt, then forget it. The crude would get into the step and pole I think, and make for problems long term. For most dudes, it's a great addition. If I didn't have one, I couldn't get into the bed without a goose.

I have tried it out and seems to work even for a big boy like me, but I dont like how far it raises the inside of the tailgate. I load skids of things in mine all the time and looks as if it would just get broken all to heck? I opted out of it, its plenty easy to climb in with tailgate up using hitch and bumper.

It's the greatest thing since canned beer. Should have been invented 50 years ago.

I'd rather hop over the side using the tire than go through the monkey motion required to use the step. It's a great option for those who no longer have that ability.
That's exactly why I ordered one with my truck... my old butt ain't hoppin' over the sides of no truck anymore :lol:. Plus landin' on the top of my 5th wheel hitch at the end of leap brings visions of pain I can do without :no:.

I use the step all the time, but could do without the pole. The thing drives me nuts when I am sliding stuff on or off the tailgate to load/unload. I didn't want that option but the truck came with it, and now that I have it I am glad I do. Minus the pole it would be great.....

Remove the handle, put a 2007 inspection cover on and LineX the whole thing.
That is what I did:icon_wink::icon_wink:
