I have a 1990 f-350 Diesel 7.3l that was given to me by my uncle b/c he did not need it any more. I need to change the oil but not sure on how much it holds or what brand to use. The truck has been setting up for a few years so It needs some fresh oil. So what would you put in a truck that had 250,000 miles on it? Does it need some lucas oil in with the mix? Is the shell rotella a good brand to get.

I also should change the transmision fluid. Its a manual 5 speed what do you guys recommend for that?

What part of the country are you in? In the winter I run a 0W-30 so i can start up when the temps drop to -35 celcius (apprx -31*F). In the summer I run 15W-40.

Fleetguard fuel filter
Part: FG1281

FLEETGUARD Lube, Full-Flow Spin-On
Part: LF3630 (PSD size adds one extra qt/ltr) total 11

6.9-7.3 Engine oil requirements.

32F to 100F+........30wt

0F to 100F+..........15W-40

32F to way below freezing ........10W-30

With the new oils...... 0W-40 is a good choice too in extreme cold

I punch a hole in the base of the filter and drain it into a container.... or it gets all over your hands... drain the pan. Install the new filter almost full of oil...... use the outer small ring of holes then it is being filtered as it fills. (same with fuel filter with diesel fuel)

VOM FSeries/Econoline Owners guide 7.3 Liter Diesel

Clean the filter mounting area of the oil cooler, lightly coat the gasket surface with clean engine oil and hand tighten until gasket contacts the base. THEN TIGHTEN ANOTHER....... 1 1/4 to 2 TURNS. Fill the crankcase and check for leaks.

At what temperature should someone consider using 0w-40. Around here it rarely drops below -25c (-13f).

As soon as the temperature never gets above -5c (23F) during the day (Novemeber) to about April. I don't like to lay in the snow to change the oil so basically before it snows to when the snow is gone.
