Hello,

I'm new to this forum and just bought my first powerstroke. My old vehicle is a 92 F-350 IDI auto. New truck is 96 F-250 PSD with 5sp and I bought it used from a used car lot.

Got almost 17 mpg at 80 mph on 1100 mile trip from New Orleans to Detroit this weekend. Does this sound right? I was hoping for more milage.

The truck currently has 125k miles on it. What are the obvious things I need to check on the truck? I've heard/read about flywheels, clutches, re-programed ecm's, etc.

Currently, I have to press the clutch damn near to the floor for complete disengagement. Also, placing the gear selector on the 1-2 side or Reverse gear I feel takes excessive effort. My wife has a REAL hard time placing these in gear.

One more thing, it appears the "water in fuel" light is randomly on. I think this as the previous owner used tape to block it out.

Thanks for the help.

Not sure on the tranny issue (mine is an auto)...Was for the water in fuel light...Grab ya a step ladder and pop the center lid on the engine...on the front of the filter bowl is a YELLOW petcock...Forward is closed, rearward drains the bowl.

14mpg with P285 85R16 tires on 12 inch rims is average on my 96
