hello all

my trouble is with my 95 PSD. I recently changed the fuel pump (leaking) and now the truck idles low (500 rpm) and has no power and hesitation. occasionally it will stall, usually in gear. It seems like i have traded no leaks for a crappy running truck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

also how do you read the codes on these computers?? I have heard you can use a paperclip but i dont want to do any damage to PCM, etc..

thank you

Welcome,It will take alittle while to get all the air out of the system. I don't think I would try the paper clip. You may have to go to a garage with an OBD-II scanner.

how long is a little while i have run the truck for about an hour so far. Also i tried to have autozone scan it and they said it was not obd 2. they said it had to be 96 or later. all the local shops are going to charge me a arm & leg to scan it. also check engine light is on.

IIRC the fuel pump is in the valley, check the harnesses that plug into the valve cover gaskets. might be loose causing injectors to not fire.

Autozone scanners suck and won't scan our trucks which ARE OBD2

Autozone scanners will not read our trucks but not all PSDs are OBD2. 94 and early 95 were not, late 95 or Ford reprogrammed 95s are. My 95, built in January, was OBD2.

Its possible the IPR cable got disconnected. Its in the valley and could have been bumped in the fuel pump changed. Low unregulated HP oil pressure could cause low idel. Have you checked idle fuel pressure? Your low idle indicates either very low fuel pressure or low HP oil.

well after working on it for a while i still seem to have some kind of electrical gremlin. i was letting her idle this morning and all the sudden the check engine light went off and she ran like normal for about 15 min. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif then as i was test driving her the check engine light started to come on intermittlenty until it just stayed on wich is where i am at now. as far as the plugs on the engine i need a new one for the pass side rear it is pretty burned up. do they sell the plug or do you have to buy the whole harness?? also i need any links for stuff like electrical wiring, maintance etc.. thank you

If one of the external connectors is burned/melted, the valve cover gasket is also toast. You can replace the connector shell parts and pins for the external harness. Here's the parts you may need:

Under Valve Cover Harness (94-97)
(Ford) F4TZ-9D930-K
(International) 1815923C92
(Napa) 700-2371

Valve Cover Gasket (94-97)
(Ford) F4TZ-6584-A
(International) 1818350C2

Valve Cover External Harness Repair Kits (contains 4 hard shells w/seals, w/o pins)
(Ford) F7TZ-14489-BA (94-96) w/o pins
(Ford) F7TZ-14489-AA (97) w/o pins
(International) 1830829C91 w/o pins
Female Pins, no wire lead (International) 1661875C1
Female Pins, with 6” wire lead (International) 2501055C1
Individual Wire/Pin seals (International) 1661872C1
Pigtail with 5 Wires and Connector (Performance Specialties) 99288

Cheers!

it will do the trick. i just had that problem last week, the glow plug wire had melted the entire conector. so i was running on 6 i guess. new gasket and harness fixed me up. but those little rubber pieces inside the injector plug are kinda sneaky. 2 fell out. 2 didnt. easy to loose.

hello again,

I pulled off the pass side valve cover to discover the inside wiring was worse than the outside plugs. I dont even know how the truck ran at all. I should have all my parts by the 1st /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif I am just suprised because it seems like only the pass side has damage, i would have thought bolth sides would be shot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I am not complaning though. Is it ok to run the truck with the valve covers off?? also anybody know a cheap way to fix a PSOM? i have the dreadded speedo bounce/ e4od confusion. thanks for all the help so far.

A lady in a S10 tried to take me head on. She lost but it totaled my truck. Her S10 took out the front suspension on the drivers side. The spring wound up under impact and threw her back out which saved her life. Otherwise the S10 would have been under my truck and very flat. It still took the Jaws Of Life to extract her. That was my first, and only, new truck and I loved it. My wife and I had bought it for our retirement vehicle. The 97 I now have was a great replacement and was nearly a match for mods and miles. I found it for sale on this site and only 15 miles from where I live. I've added a bit to it since the purchase.
