I just traded in my old 1997 RAM 2500 Diesel for the much nicer deal listed below. It's a manual and in low granny, first and second there is a little noise right after clutch is let out. My ford friends tell me that just the way they do cause its a heavy duty clutch. Doesn't seem to affect the shifting and it doesn't slip. Anything else I need to watch for on the PSD since I've been a Cummins driver for a while now. Thanks for the comments

I have an auto so maybe somebody with a straight gear will respond soon. I just wanted to say welcome to the forum and congrats on buying a real truck!!!
This is a awesome website but it sure can run up a credit card balance. How many miles are on your Y2K, mine just turned over 50K.
If yours came with a K&N filter rip it out quick. I would also get a set of gauges for it, they are a big help.
Anyway, Welcome!!!

truck has 98,000 miles, no K&N filter, very clean truck. It's a BIG truck but the Dodge was falling apart around the motor and had trouble pulling my new camper. I drove a few of the manual Ford diesels from both this dealer and different dealers and they all seemed to make this little clutch letout noise in the lower 2 gears. I love the truck and it didn't look like the clutch kits are too $$ even for the luk...let me know...

Does the little clutch letout noise you hear sound like a loose panel vibrating somewhere in the engine compartment that goes away as soon as the clutch is fully out and you are moving?

Noises are a funny thing and kind of very hard to accurately describe. This being said... you did say you heard the same sound in all the manuals you drove, it's most likely normal. Can't say if it's 100% normal but most likely.

Oh, do pull up the report jlrsn sent you the link to, it's excellent

I too have a 6 speed manual trans. I know that when the rpm is low in what ever gear i am in, I get the gear roll over sound. It almost sounds like gears grinding. Once the rpm comes up a little, the sound disappears. This is normal at low rpm's.

Race 22's response fit's the bill...The rool over sound in mine is present at low rpm's. When you let clutch out at the higher rpm or quicker rolling speed no roll over noise.

One more question...what is the correct clutch reservoir level. There doesn't appear to be a mark on the small white plastic bowl. There is a detent line right below the cap but my level is at about the half full area in the bowl. Thanks

I would add a little fluid just to be on the safe side. Mine is still at the top of the reservoir. It has been that way since I bought the truck new. Welcome to the sight. You will love it. Shure make you want to spend your money though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif
