Okay, I have the bug. My 02 is still running and looking great, but the bug has bitten. My problem is two fold.
1. I keep hearing all these horror stories about the new Fords being junk.
2. I don't know whither to buy a 350 or 450.
Anyone have an opinion, just looking for an honest answer.
Thanks

I wouldnt let so called horror stories stop you. I would check into insurance first on the 450 and make sure you company will insure it as a personal vehicle. Some force you into commercial insurance. It took me 5 or 6 companies to finally get it straight and not get cancelled. The 450 will have a better turning radius, pretty darn impressive, but get a little less mpg. You'll notice the difference in looks with the bulky front fender flares, but besides that they are so close in numbers I would pick just what ever one you feel you really want! Then enjoy!!!!

I had the same problem! I owned two duramax trucks with no problems. Each truck went 100k before i traded them in. I did not have any problems with GMC or repair costs. The trucks held up great.

This is my first Ford and it was hard to change. So far my New truck has been great. Time will tell if I will be a return customer of Ford.

Thanks Sportscraft. I regularly pull 10,000 lbs. Hay and horses.
Horror stories. I know several people that have told me about their trucks breaking down out on the road with their horses in tow, never a fun thing when your 500 miles from home and you're broken down on the side of the road on a Sunday. I have had people tell me their 2011 are in the shop more than they are in their driveway. I have a friend in PA who works for a GM dealership that tells me, they are not even taking fords in
On trades because there are so many problems.
I have never owned anything but a Ford. I wouldn't even consider buying a different brand. I just want to make sure that what I get is the same great trucks that I've had in the past.

I would recommend finding a 2003 7.3 with low miles. The new DEF and all the EPA crap makes me sick. When choosing my new truck I found all brands have their problems with the DEF. If was hauling live stock I would find a old school truck you can fix on a road trip.

There's not really much sense arguing about the DPF + Urea package of the newer trucks, it is not going away so it's either take it off and do without the warranty or keep a 10yr old vehicle without warranty.

I'd prefer my truck not breaking down at all on any trip which is why I try and take care of it before it needs it.
So far I only have 9,000 miles towing 13k+lbs on this new truck since June and zero Emissions related problems or any problems for that matter but I will be the first to say so when I do have one.

Some people like old vehicles and say they are reliable some people like new vehicles and say they are reliable, either way you need to be happy with your decision.

Horror stories are just that, based on some facts but mostly not true and over exaggerated.

The SuperDuty is selling more than Ram HDs, Silverado HD's and Sierra HD's combined.

Had zero problems here. In my area the SD, like above post stated, are outselling GM/Dodge combined. :ford::thup:

If you are doing 10,000 as a regular load in a trailer... Get the 350, It is more than enough for what you are hauling. Ask any of the people using that model.

Here is a link to the information for the towing capacity of the various vehicles. The F350 DRW is rated at 17,500 in 2WD or 4x4.

:read: Towing

I hope it helps you.

As to the issue of horror stories... Chevy and Dodge sales staff are the greatest source of those lies.

Go check out dieselplace.com(GM) and ramforumz.com(duh) and just read and hear from people in the real world that drive these trucks everyday and the problems they experience. (They definitely have their fair share of horror stories, especially the 2011 LML section but you have to remember more people report about problems than people that tell how great it is.)
I would definitely not ask on any of these forums which is the best truck of the big 3, you'll be sure to get a handful of serious responses but I guarantee a majority will be made up facts and bashing of the other brands.
Just read or ask questions specific to your use to keep the flaming down until you figure it out. Some of the guys on these types of forums should be car salesmen the way they sell one and bash the other :)

Seriously though, if you are like me then any of the 1 tons would do and when it really comes down to it it was just brand preference or looks. All 3 are very capable, if you personally feel like your money was spent well then it doesn't matter the price of the truck because you aren't going to buy any of the trucks unless it makes sense for you. Toss the sticker out the window.

Thanks mmomega, see that kind of info is useful, someone saying wise up isn't helpful at all. I know the new system is here to stay, I don't really have a problem with it, other than it is just something else to maintain and added cost, but it is what it is.
I keep my truck well maintained and I always have. My 02 has 200,000 on it and still runs great, if I thought waiting until the 13 come out I wouldn't have a Problem waiting.
