I installed the latest version of UBB which is 6.1.0 Beta Release 2.1. It seems to be quite stable and offers several performance features that should make the site respond better.

There is a slot to add a link for the personal picture, but the "box" to check to activate the picture is not there.

I think the photo thing is for administrators only. I'm hoping they change that before the next release so that anyone can have them.

Make everyone an administrator, and than eliminate anyone who is incapable of self policing.
This way everyone would become visible in profile and capable of communication. Why would any administrator wish to remain totally anonymous?
