yeah you can just turn it down, turn it down a wrench flat at a time and then drive it again. but since fuel delivery is entirely based on the metering device in between idle and WOT, you can get the same effect by sticking your foot in it less. drive it like one more RPM will make you asplode and ignore the people behind you for the best mileage.

If you arn't getting black smoke when you floor it, then the IP is fine turned up. A little black smoke for a couple of seconds is OK also.

If you're making black smoke any time other than a little at start or a little when under heavy load (e.g. uphill with a load) then something is wrong, either timing excessively advanced, fuel turned up too far, air filter clogged, or some combination thereof
