Hey, The Science Channel's " How it's made was at MAN Turbo. Awesome! Built from raw materials a turbo for a freight container ship. Was going to tell you but,,,, well any way.
This is what it was like.:headbang2::lol::lol:
They cast the fins for the turbine. They took what looked like a street man hole cover x2  craned it over to a broaching machine:thumbsup: , cut spline Chanel's in it, craned it over to a stand and hanging fins in these channels that are exactly the same as a GE fan on a plane. Compressor whel is a WW2,000,000  the axial bearing the machine is the size of a large pizza by x2. Bearings were made from round stock that was like 3inch I.D..
They of course spun balanced it. I believe 3-4 pounds out is tolerable.
Then they spin it up in a steel pipe under ground in a hole in the factory floor. to see if it will come apart.
It only will hit 24k, but hey it takes a bit to spin up a hunk of iron twice the size of a man hole cover. but that the beauty of the WW2,000,000. Oh, yeah it helps spool up faster out on the ol high seas. Helps with surge as well they say.
Nice to hear from you ol blue.
