I just read a blurb in the Aug issue of "4-Wheel & Off-Road" magazine that referenced a report in "Automotive News" that Nissan will be bringing out a 3/4 ton version of the Titan pickup in 2009 (doesn't specify if it is MY or CY though). Goes on to say a diesel engine (no manufacturer given) will be an option.

Domestic manufacturers better get their act in gear. Specifically quality control and value for the money.

The Titan is already a great truck - has one of the best V8s in it I've experienced. I have no doubt Nissan will do it right. Heck, in the long run, more competition will give us more choices and better quality. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I do wish the truck makers would quit focusing so much on their biggest (HD) offerings, though. I think the makers are overlooking the 1/2 ton trucks and their potential (I know, I know... much of that has to do with emission standards). The maker that comes out with a decent diesel in a 1/2 ton truck will sell them like hotcakes.

I have been seeing alot of them around here in Spokane. They seem to be selling real good and see the V-8 badge on most of them.

Anybody know what they (the current Titan's) sticker at compared to a comparable Big 3 truck? I know Honda's yuppie truck is pretty pricey. Curious about the nissan.

They only come with a 5.6L V-8.

I ran up against one in my PSD going up a long hill and couldn't out pull him. He must have chipped it and his exhaust wasn't stock, but impressive nontheless.

When I was considering buying my wife a new truck, we looked at the Titan.

BRIEFLY.

The dealer in our area wanted $28,000. Too much for what she needs--a V-6/manual transmission with some suspension upgrades for towing. My budget for her was $15,000. Hard to even find a base model GM or Dodge for that price. She won't drive a Ford.

I'm betting Nissan or Toyota beats Ford and GMC to market with a 1/2 ton diesel. I won't bet against DC/Benz they have a new V-6 Sprinter engine coming out very soon. That V-6 is very compact and has 184 HP which is about right for a 1/2 ton. Heck they came out with the CRD Liberty and E-320-CDI Benz when every one was running in the gasser direction.

My friend had a titan. I didn't care for it much. The throttle was way to touchy, bad mpg, no long bed option, I don't like how there is only one drivetrain option, you have to buy the options in packages so you get a lot of stuff you dont care about if you want power windows and personally I think they are ugly. They would have to change a lot of things before I thought about buying one.

Yes, the big 3 better pay attention, though I understand the Nissan hasn't yet met sales projections as a gasser and has apparently had production quality issues. I've looked at a couple of descriptions of the 07 Toyota Tundra, available Jan 07, 'up-sized' with a 5.4L? gasser V-8 option, options on bed length and cab, with one package having a 10,000 or so 'towing capacity'. Its a nice looking truck, with up-sized brakes, ABS, and a 10.5 rear end, sized to be roughly competitive with the F150. The Toyo sales pitch sez they looked to 'real' American truck users to design it. If its as competitive as it looks to be, and they beef it up with a diesel in '09 or so, that might be my next truck. Toyota quality [I had and was very pleased with a 1990 xcab small Toyo V6 gasser p'up] with a diesel and the torque and capacity to ably pull the 8-10k of stuff & trailer that I [and lots of others ....] need to haul.

The new Toyota "F-150 beater" will be a very strong contender. The old Tundra was very "nice" but it was a "3/4 size F-150 Crew", nice but not quite there.

The Titan on the other hand regardlss of your like of the style or not IS a contender.

That is as if you don't want a long bed. Neither version of the Titan has an 8 foot bed. And the Crew cab version has a bed that reminds me of an Explorer sport trac.

That kept me for condsidering it seriously as I use the bed of my truck for moving supplies.

Agreed but I don't think you can get a F-150 in a full size crew AND 8 foot bed either. On the other hand you can get the shorter cab and 8 foot box in the F-150. surveys have shown that the actual "requirement" of 8 foot boxes is quite less than one would think. for the really big loads long and heavy you probably need a F-250/350 or the GMC/DC HD trucks. Few private people really need 3/4 or one ton trucks and 8 foot beds. Contractors are a total different story.

The diesels we now have and the diesels that we will soon have including very complex and expensive systems will drive away every one other than the die hard diesel lovers and the really need BIG towing power guys. 7-8K more for the diesel option just doesn't work for most people.

Yeah... my wife and I kind of saw the writing on the wall this year and felt like now was the time to jump on something new, if we were going to make the move to a new truck any time within the next 6-8 years or so.

I think the used diesel market is going to do fairly well for the next few years--if a folks can find trucks that haven't been bombed or otherwise abused. A 3-5 year old used truck (no newer than an '06 or pre-emissions '07) will be a nice find once trucks are marked up as much as you say.

We have a 2006 Nissan Armada(basically a titan in suv form). The V8 is the most underated gas engine ive ever seen. rated at 305 hp, but the thing runs like a scalded ape. the thing is so fast off the line its absurd, and pulls any hill you want under load. Either ford and gm are way overating there v8's or nissan is way underating theres. Seriously, its that bad ass.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that the oil filter on a Nissan is about half the size of a pop can? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
