My 05 350 seems to not positively shift in between gears, but not at all times.
So say you start off from a dead stop, and the AT (not in TH mode), goes from 1st to 2nd OK, then 2nd to 3rd it seems to miss a positive shift point, almost like it doesnt engage for about a second.

The dealer said they reprogrammed the shift points, also did the last recall emissions and it was cool for about a week, then started the same issue again.

This is the second time I have had this issue since taking delivery last year.

Any ideas?

On mine (and others you'll see mentioned here) it's the 3/4 shift and it feels like the tranny is slipping. If not for the potential warranty effects, I'd have done some transmission tweaks long ago 'cause man do I wish the shifts were more positive. Really can't stand the 3/4 revs flare up, but it's just the way these things work and it's pretty much the only thing I don't like about the truck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Doesn't the torque shift transmission skip a gear on the way up? Seems to me that I heard it skips either the 4 or 5 hole. If that is the case, that might be why it feels odd. I haven't paid any attention to my truck unloaded, but in T/H mode there are definitely 6 forward gears.

Exactly, it does feel like a 3/4 shift, then a mild slip before it engaged.

I thought the shift points were all computer controlled, but this feel vacuum mechanical to me.

Either way, is there a TSB out on this?

Not aware of a factory fix. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Grab a snack and search around here for terms like "shift +flare" (without the quotes). It's a bummer.

My 04 Stroker does the same thing off and on. It will be fine for a few weeks, then it will act up again. I was told the new computer flash 06E17 was the fix, and I am getting it done soon. Just so you know I was worried about it so I pulled the pan and found no metal shavings of any kind, so the tranny isnt really slipping, its just a wierd ford thing I guess. I changed the oil to amsoil too, and found it to be a lot better!

yeah, mine is going in too for a new flash. The SW said it would fix the issue. I am also getting a flutter when I let off the throttle during acceleration. He said they will fix that and know all about it.

If the tranny slips one more time after the flash, I'm gonna make them pull it and replace it. It's the third time for this issue.

Noop. Mine's up to date on the flash and it doesn't change anything about the way the tranny feels/works.

The transmission will learn your driving style to a certain extent... it will apply this learned stratgey when the transmission shifts.... here's what happens... the PCM defuels the engine for a split second to reduce torque. This is designed to make shifts appear a little more "seemless", allow shifts to occur quickly yet gently and reduce the load on the clutch packs during the shift.

In the FWIW department... the 5 R110 is actually a six speed transmission. Here's where you will have to forgive me... I always have to refer to the shift schedule chart to be sure.... When cold, the transmission shifts 1-2-3-4-6. When warm, it shifts 1-2-3-5-6. Here's why.... the ratios in 4th (something like .9 to 1)and 5th (1 to 1) are very close. The ideal gear is 1 to 1... but this shift (3-5) is what is called "synchronous shift" - meaning two things have to happen at the same time. In order to make things smoother, a cold vehicle will shift 3-4 which is a "non-synchronous shift".... only one thing has to happen. This can account for some of the different things an owner might feel when driving

I think what you are experiancing is normal, Mine does the same thing and the 2 others I have driven are the same. The Torqueshift learns how quick to make a shift (Not When). So if you alter your normal driving, say getting on the pedal hard, you will get some strange shifts. Its like Grampy Jim said it defuels for a split second while it decides what to do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
