Sound like you may have burnt a harness under the valve cover and one or two injectors may not be firing. With the doghouse off and the engine running, unplug each one of the harness plugs at the valve covers one at a time. If there is no change on one, then thats the one that is burnt. An easier way is to find someone local who can run a cylinder balance and a buzz test. It is real difficult to remove the covers in a van. Good luck.

Trucktech:
Thanks for the reply. Could this happen while driving on the xway at 70 mph? After this post I drained the fuel filter and restarted same issue, rattles, vibrates and no power. Does this sound more like mechancial issue rather that fuel? I also had some pretty dirty air filters, K/N I did the recharge technique and have not re installed but I started it with out the air filter installled.

Thanks

Yes it could happen at any time. Another problem that shows up more on vans is a shorted IDM. Because the IDM is under the windshield post, the rain water runs right down and over it. I have wrapped mine in rubber to prevent it from filling up with water. When the IDM fills with water the right side stops firing leaving you with a very sluggish 4 cyl.

Yup it was the IDM, located under the battery. Dealer wanted 925 for IDM 185 ebay fixed problem. They still got me for 450.00 for eval and install. The origianl quote was 1350.00. How can these guys sleep when the rake the customer over the coals like this?

Ya know the contacts on the IDM looked pretty corroded. I wonder if a loose connection/corroded could have caused this.

Got the old IDM? Take it and remove the cover that is glued in place with grey silicone, you will see that the card is corroded and it may be very wet. To protect the new one, wrap it in rubber, like piece of an old tire tube then put silicone dielectric grease on the connections. I did that with mine when the first one failed while the truck was still under warranty. Haven'y had a problem since.

i just sealed the little vent on the bottom of the IDM,hopefully this is the only way water gets in,my contacts were also corroded and wet so i just sprayed WD-40 in there for now.

Just a heads up on the silicone dielectric grease.

When testing an IDM, I smeared the connector with dielectric grease and came up with about 7 trouble codes on the IDM, including some circuits shorted together. The same IDM had checked out OK before the grease, so I took it back off and wiped most of the grease off and retested. Everything was fine at that point. Apparently the dielectric grease is conductive. Too much really messes things up.
