I drove my truck last night about 5 miles, ran great. I shut it off for around 30 minutes. When I restarted the idle didn't sound right and I noticed the SES light on. When I started my drive home it felt like the engine has a miss and no power. There is no smoke. Any idea what it could be?? I'm going to have the codes read tonight after work. The truck is a 99.5 with only 55,000 miles on it.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Ok guys, just pulled the codes. P1316, P1249,P1211 then did a key on, engine off test and got P0605 and P1272. I then used the search feature here on the forum. Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that the UVCH is the problem. Also, because it shows the P1272 (Cyl.2(B) hi-low side open) the drivers side harness should be the problem?

I'm going to buy harnesses for both sides from the IH dealer. Is the correct P/N 1830844C93 ?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Yep, that's the one you need. Good detective work.

I just want to make sure before I tear into this thing. Cylinder 2 is on the driver's side, right???

Thanks

Yep, #2 is driver side front cylinder. If the UVC harness doesn't fix it, pull the solenoid on #2 (4 screws) and check the poppet screw (holds the plate down thats under the solenoid). If the plate is loose, the screw is loose. This caused me to get similar code as you only on #5 (1275). Be sure to stuff rags around to keep from dropping screws into engine. Let us know what you find out.

I'm having a similar problem that started 2 days ago. Truck ran fine, shut it off to unload, restarted the engine and it ran for about 1/2 second then quit. Restarted and had the rough engine/skip problem. My SES only came on when going uphills, and is now off.

So, I changed the fuel filter, added clean fuel ( tank was on 1/8th when the problem started) and ran it for about 16 miles and all was fine. The problem came back after a 20 minute shutdown.

I used my brothers code reader which is an inexpensive model, not sure of the brand. It said there were no codes.

What code reader are you two using that is giving you such nice data?? Sounds like a worthwhile investment to me.

Thanks

Replaced the UVCH last night and fixed the problem!! I bought them at the local Navistar dealer for $18.54 each. I bought 2 just in case. We replaced the one on the drivers side and that took care of it. Hopefully I won't need the other one!!! My truck only has 55,000 easy miles on it. I guess this stuff can happen to any of them.

Thanks to eveyone and this forum for all of the help. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Glad that was it. Throw the other one in the glove box so your spare CPS doesn't get lonely.

Good to hear SOMEONE can fix their problems - hope you don't need the spare parts any time soon. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
