but the truck runs. I have a 99 350, had it for about 5 years. About a year ago it started blowing the 15a fuse (in the engine compartment fuse box) when I would turn on the lights. The headlights, on a different circuit, are fine, but the tail lights, marker lights, and dash lights don't work. I've checked the wiring and all seems ok (no obvious shorts). Is this a common problem, or one that anyone else has had?

I noted in another post that the wires inside the steering coulmn get chafed and cause dash light problems, however, I have no problem with the accelerator...although my "overdrive off" light starts blinking on the column switch right out of nowhere sometimes. Could this be related?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like the wire for the OD on/off switch has chafed though and is shorting out. If you can find the connector where the wire comes out of the column unplug it and see if it still blows the fuse. It won't do anything to the transmission, you just can't lock out the OD.

Your sig says you've got a dually, so the fuse you're blowing is the one for the trailer running lights - on the duallies that line also feeds the running lights on the bed, and the dash lights. I'd look for a short in your trailer wiring - most likely it will be in the connector at the back bumper.

That's what I suspected (the trailer light wiring), I'll redo it tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks...

Just looked in the manual. I couldn't find a relay for the park lamps, but there is under hood Fuse #4 that is for the trailer tow backup and park lamps. Pull that fuse and then see if it still blows #8. In the manual it reads the following "Trailer Tow Electronic Brake Illumination, Park Lamps, Trailer Tow Park Lamp Relay Coil" on fuse #8. I couldn't find the TT Park lamp relay in the list. I could have swore it exists. It must be a misprint.

Manuals here. Choose F-250 as the model otherwise you won't get all the books available. The fuses start around pg 150.
