No pattern yet. This just started yesterday.

Was running great. I mean he touches the key and it starts. Then for no reason around noon it was hard to start. While setting at a bank drive through he had to kill it so the yea hoo inside could hear. Never would start. He call me and asks about water in fuel I say dude I have a 7.3 I have no clue about your truck. Anyway I get over there and neither one of us has a strap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
We push it to a clear spot and pop the hood and start reading well he does I can't see that good. It turns over but it just won't fire acts like no fuel. I then remember what Cochise told me I bought my first Diesel Truck, If your truck won't start check the emergency shutoff just for @[email protected]$ and giggles. Well that worked but it happened again today out in the middle of a field for no rime are reason. He punches the reset button and it fires right up and he is on his way. Darnedest thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
I thought I would throw it out here and see what you guys thought.

Sounds like a faulty shutoff switch, I believe it is only suppose to trip if you are in an accident and hit pretty hard.

the front passenger kick panel. If you look closely you will see a hole in the panel, put your finger in there and push in button. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We are going to give that a try.
Has anyone replaced one of these?
We have ordered a complete shop and service manual set but it has not made it here yet.

Yeah, it's a piece of cake.

Remove the passenger side sill plate by pulling it straight up - start at one end or the other. Then reach behind the front edge of the kick panel, and pull it inboard to start the little plastic "christmas tree" pin out. Grab the pin and finish pulling it out - you might need to rock it forward and back to get it out depending on your grip strength. Now pull the kick panel straight rearward - there are two clips in the door frame that hold it on. The inertia switch will then be clearly visible. Two bolts hold it on (don't remember the size) and there is one connector on the bottom.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Ok I hope this might help someone. I have a 01 f350 5.4 and this will sound weird but here goes. I went out and found I had picked up a screw in a tire. Not sure what caused it but between jacking the truck up,standing on the 4 way lug wrench and finally using air wrench finally got wheel off to plug the tire. Job completed tried to start would not fire up. Started trying to figure out what could be the issue. I took air filter pipe lose and used starting fluid Nothing . Started looking on line and found this site. Went out checked and the shut off had kicked off. All this to say look at the simple things first. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for bringing up this thread. That's something I wouldn't have thought of.
