The truck will not start when it is warm or hot. When cold it starts and runs just fine. Any suggestions?

Re: No start when the truck is warm or hot..?

We are going to remove that and clean it real well and rebuild it. We talked with a buddy today who is a diesel mechanic. He said that is sounds like a bad HPOP to him. When it is cold it starts with no problems but hot it wont start it just cranks. He said to pull the truck with another truck and pop the clutch to start it and if that works then it is the HPOP not supplying enough pressure to start the truck but that it will still run. Does that make any sense?

Re: No start when the truck is warm or hot..?

will , the ICP needs to see about 500 psi to tell the pcm go fire the injectors , so if it really is the hpop , then i really can't figure how it would run if it was bad , since it needs at least 500 to start , let alone run. . there is some info somewhere on this site , about the ipr bleeding down. Do some searchs on the HPOP. I would think it isn't "shot" if it will run cold. If you can get it scanned while it runs , post the OIL PRESSURE from the pump on here at idle and with some WOTs and the Engine oil temp the duty cycle (%) of the IPR and anything else you can. The Engine Oil Temp is another senser to take a look at. (EOT) located on the back of HPOP. a member with the screen name JOAT has a link to alot of info on this , and what it has to do with starting.

When this happened to me in June of 2003 it was the IPR O Rings. CLICK HERE to go to the archived thread I started when mine went. I have Coach Davis' instructions saved as an MS Word document. If you would like them send me an email at [email protected] with IPR O RINGS in the subject line, let me know what site you saw this on and what email address you would like me to use and I will reply with the attachment plus one or two more on the subject.

check icp reading when cranking hot!! if less than 500 try a shot of ether with the glow plugs disabled if fires and runs, id be suspecting the ipr valve. i just did one on mine, and i snuck it out without removing anything, but the two 13mm hold down bolts for the fuel filter housing. take your time, be patient, and check ebay!!! i got a deal on a ipr there.
