Greetings and Salutations!

New here. I am getting DTC codes and was wondering if anybody on this site might be able to recommend a good shop/mechanic in the North San Diego area. I live in Vista and have not been too impressed with Vista Ford.

Any help?

Howdy!! I'm in Bonsall so we are practically neighbors. I have been looking for the same thing.

On the SoCaps forum (S. CA Powerstroke) the consensus of opinion seems to be that North County Ford is to be avoided but I don't have any first hand experience with them. I do have experience with Heller in Escondido and I WILL NOT take my truck there. People seem to think that Ken Grody Ford in Car Country Carlsbad is good for routine maintenance. I have not used their service dept. yet but I have had a positive experience with their parts dept.

For real diesel work though, people seem to swear by Sunrise Ford in Fontana but that would be a bit of a drive for us (one guy from Ramona takes his truck up there).

I don't know anything about any independents in the area but am always looking for a good recommendation.

Thank you for your review. Seems I'm not the only one trying to locate the Holy Grail (or would that be Grill? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) for a good diesel shop/mechanic in our area.

Hi Fellas,

DO NOT take your rig to Rancho Ford in Temecula. I took mine there 9 months ago and had over $4K worth of audio/video stolen while in thier possesion. They have a thief there....gotta be one of the lot porters. They ran me round-n-round for 2 months trying to weasle out of it. Trying to make me produce reciepts for equipment that was already installed in the vehicle, although I had bought the Excursion used. I finally threatened a lawsuit and they ponied up.

They did fix my radiator leak, but I'm telling everyone I know about there conprimise in ethics.

I also have a line on a great mechanic....he's at Kearny Mesa Ford, but is very good. Just an option. Let me know if you want the number.

Never been to Heller or North County but haven't heard good about either.

So far I've taken my truck to Poway without any problems. I've also heard good reports about Ken Grody but never been there.

If I had serious work to be done, I'd also consider going up to Sunrise, they know their stuff.

I've taken my truck to Kearny Mesa Ford a number of times when I've been in a hurry. They have always done good work with only one problem (wanted to put in a new IPR - not telling me there is a rebuild kit as an option).

I understand North County Alignment does good work. I've never been there but they probably don't work on motors.

Also, stay away from Bob Bowens on Rt. 8. They do not know what they are doing. They aligned my 4x4 using a 2x4 kit - twice. Ruined two tires with the alignment. Had KM Ford chisel off the parts they were on so tight.

Im really not sure about a good diesel mechanic around here. I have hookups on parts, aftermarket parts, body work, etc. but not a mechanic yet...

I was in the Ford dealer in Car Country Carlsbad yesterday, and I was talking to a parts guy, and I asked him for a price on the AIS kit, and he said it was like $324 or something like that...
Then he gave me his price... $250

He was a huge help, and one of those friendly guys that is nice to work with when buying... Not sure about the service dept though... And the sales guys there are like hounds, they rush you and attack you, haha

Also, in San Marcos/Escondido (not sure where the fine line is there)
there is a metal supply yard, and right next to it is a place that works on rigs and big trucks... I have no idea if they are good or not, but they do work on diesels... lol
I dont remember exactly where it is without driving over there, but its right next to Harbor Freight...

We should all keep on the lookout, and post back... I sure will, and ill start asking around...

Also, if you see a really dirty 350 CC with no front bumper, and a guy with a mohawk driving it, wave....

Sounds like you delt with Rafael at Grody Ford. He helped me with some parts I needed last week and ended up giving me the wholesale price -- BIG difference over list!! He was VERY helpful and patient and I would recommend him to anyone.

I know what you mean about the sales people though. They were hovering like vultures!!
