Is it a coincedence? I know that Ford has a recall on the electrical switch that is on the master cylinder. Mine smoked today and started a small but managable fire. My question is: I bought this 95 F350 PSD last week which has 224K on it. The cruise and backup lights were not working which I read on here could have been the #5 fuse under the hood which it was. I replaced the blown fuse, then took it for a test drive. The lights and cruise went to working but less than 2 miles down the road it smoked. Luckily it did it as I was pulling up to a light and I handled it quickly. So is this just a coincidence or are these systems related and should I look for other problems other than just replacing the switch? Thanks JJ

Ford recalled the switch on the gassers because it was hot all the time and catching fire when no one was around. On ours the switch is only hot with the key on engine running, I guess its ok for it to burn as long as we are there to watch it.

I replaced my switch with a 3/8-24 bolt.

Im not sure how the switch will effect the backup lights but a bad switch will definately render the cruise inoperative. A jumper wire across the terminals in the plug will fix the cruise.
