This week when I started my truck at work to come home for lunch as soon as the truck started I hit the o/d lock out and lost some of my gauges and idiot lights. Later in the day I found the fuse was blown relaced it tried the switch a few times all was ok, then next morning same thing again. I did some reaading on here and I think is the o/d switch, which works fine inbetween the blown fuses, my question is where is the short?? in the end of the shifter or some where else in the steering colum? If so whats the best way too get it apart? Looking for some hints where to look before I start tearing stuff apart. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

The wire that goes to the OD Lockuot switch runs across the steering column under the plastic. A lot of times, the wire will get a bare spot and ground out on the steering column. Pull the plastic around your steering column and put some black tape around the wire that runs to the OD lockout. 99% certain that will be your problem..

i had the same exact problem.. i pulled the ignition cylinder, pulled the top half of the plastic column off (i think 3 or 4 screws from the bottom side) disconnected the wire at the base of the shifter, pulled out the pin holding the shifter and took the shifter out. then i saw where the wire had rubbed through and was grounding out on the column. sounds like that's what you need to do

You guys nailed it, I've been sick as a dog and finaly got to it today and the short was right there where you siad it was and I never would have found it if I looked on my own. The chafe in the wire was tiny in one spot hidden from view. Thanks again! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
