check the forums on mercedesshop.com, benzworld.com. I had heard that many M-B shops change oil with suction via the dipstick tube, because of pan drain access issues, and that there is a 'lock' on the auto tranny. The folks at mercedesshop should get you a quick answer. What do you think of that model M-B diesel? My wife wants me to look at W210 diesels, 98 or 99, for her - a friend of hers has one, likes it, and gets over 30mpg.

wife love s the e300 diesel, lots of power, great mileage.....no less than 26 mpg per tank....great ride..only quirk so far, all the window operator/motors have failed.....window just drops down into door.

i have a 91 w126, the grand 350 sdl......cant get less than 28mpg no matter how its driven, i like the older body style.

we found the e300 in texas, 28 k on odo.....one owner..27k plus shipping to nj sept of 2004.

Riggodeaux,

I talked my dad into buying one of these cars; and he recently bought a 1999 Mercedes E300 Turbo Diesel with 125,XXX miles. We've only had it a couple of days, but so far he really likes it. When we were doing some research on which diesel Mercedes to get, our Mercedes shop strongly recommended the 98-99 model years. Further, most owners have said they can get around 35mpg on the highway. I see you're also in Atlanta, a really good independent Mercedes shop is MBS Motors and they're off of Pleasant Hill in Duluth, www.mbsmotors.com . We were able to find several of the 98-99 diesels using Auto Trader's advanced search, heck, we even found our car using it.

Hope it helps,
K.N.

I've got the M-B E320 diesel. It's a very comfortable drivers car with plenty of power and great MPG (high 20's in the city and high 30's on the highway). If I could keep my foot out of it, I'd probably get 5+ more MPG. I knew I'd made the right decision when I got 37 MPG driving it home from the out-of-town dealer.

No problems to report so far. And, I take it in to the dealer for service - even though it's expensive. I don't want any struggles over the warranty if something does go wrong.

Bill, I'm surprised its still under a warranty. After looking at several, I bought one for the wife on Friday - 99, less than 100k on the odometer, drove it home. Very nice car. I'll do a little PM on it, including some bushings, etc., in the front end, and we are good to go. My guesstimate, not having yet filled it up after the drive home, is at or just over 30 mpg zipping down I-85 at 72=76 mph. Mercedesshop.com, and several other user forums, were very helpful in assessing this purchase and locating knowledgeable service providers. Gotta love diesel!

I had heard about the common rear passenger window regulator problem. the part is fairly cheap and the DIY fix instructions are at mercedesshop.com, benzworld.com, or one of the other benz user sites. Fortunately, the one I just bought doesn't have the problem - when it does, I'll know how to fix it!
