Oil leak from dipstick housing??

2859 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  jwcook
I have an oil leak coming from where the dipstick goes into the block, and the mechanic that is looking at it is saying he has to pull the motor to repair, is this right?? Seems like alot of work for what needs to be repaired, so he is estimating $800-1,000 to pull motor and repair?? Anyone have some input for me, i just don't want to go to a bunch of extra work and money if that isn't the case. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Glad you got it fixed. For future readers....Someone sugested using the smallest pair of vice grips that they make and clamping it onto the opening that the dipstick goes into and the nut will slide over the vice grips. I've done this twice and works great. and I'm always scared of the pliers comming open while I'm grabing parts so once I lock them down I tape the handles shut with electrical tape just for cheap insurance.
