I know this issue has been beaten to death, but since Mercon synthetic fluid is hard to get at the regular auto parts why cant we use Super Tech synthetic tranny fluid Mercon/DexronIII from Wally World. Is there anything wrong with this fluid? I'm due for a tranny oil change soon and I would like to stick with the synthetic since that is what I have in there now. If the knowledgeable minds here on this site say its ok, then I will use it. Thanks in advance for everyones response.

You can. But Ford has pulled the plug on anyone - including Wally World - from selling MERCON, so if you find some you'd better stock up now.

Not a thing, if it's MERCON/DEXRON III and not also rated MERCON V.

If I didn't have a BTS tranny that can use the MERCON V ATF, I'd stock up on the WallyWorld synthetic MERCON while they still have it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

I don't think that correctly describes the situation. Ford is not going to issue any more Mercon licenses. There are some licenses already issued that are good for another year. There is no reason I can find that would prevent a blender from continuing to make and sell the same stuff. They just can't get a license from Ford. All you do to get a license is send in a check along with a sample of your fluid. The best I can tell the blenders can continue to say "meets or exceeds Mercon specs". There are some fluids out there right now, some good ones, that say they meet certain specs and are not licensed by the OEM.

Been using it for a year or so. Lots cheaper than the other synths out there.

Is it dual rated or mention Mercon V on the bottle anywhere?

If it's the same as the stuff I used, it is NOT dual-rated. It's straight Dexron III/Mercon fluid. When I was last at Walmart, they no longer had any. Perhaps some folks, having knowledge of the demise of Mercon rated fluid, stocked up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
