i have a 2002 f-350 7.3, auto,

it has the dp tuner chip,tymar intake,5" exhaust

i pull a hotshot and over the past few days only when im loaded going up hills or mountains the water temp guage will climb to red and it overheated yesterday

any sugg??? thanks

Check the thermostat, If it is only partially opening it would allow the engine to get hot quick. Check the Fan Clutch, could be bad causing the engine to not help "pull air", Make sure you have correct amount of fluid and mix 50/50 in radiator/reservoir (I know stupid but you never know). MAke sure the hoses don't feel squishy. They could collapse when suction from the pump is pulling the fluid (not likely though).

Check the temp of upper and lower hoses. The upper hose should be far to hot @ 200 + deg (to hold your hand on it) if the thermostat IS working. i.e. letting the hot water off the motor out into the radiator. This much easier to check with a infrared thermometer.

Fan clutch is not easy to test but there is a procedure for testing.

Start the thermostat and post your results.
