Was it puking coolant or did the gauge just get hot?

Was the fan engaging?

Is your heat exchanger stack full of grass/dirt/bugs/small woodland creatures?

It's tough to diagnose without more info.

With an OEM tune, it's a hell of a lot easier to diagnose a problem than with a chip/tuner that mucks with the fuel/timing so much you can't tell what's going on at any given moment.

Of course, with the switchbacks, you were running big load at fairly low speed with an open torque converter much of the time, and that's going to make heat regardless.

The problem with the factory gauge is that it basically has preset points. Once it gets to a certain temp it jumps to a certain point. You can see this pretty bad on a cold start if you sit there and watch it warm up.

that is probably what is happening. We are showing you coolant temp in real time and when the temp hits a preset value it is jumping the factory gauge way up. 204 should not do it but, I think 210 will.

I don't think it is technically overheating until the ECT exceeds 240F. I wouldn't think 210 would cause the factory temp gauge to spike to hot. Some of the '05 trucks had a faulty cluster that would read hot when, in fact, the truck was still within normal temps. I wonder if there is any chance your 06 somehow has a defective gauge?
