Is it ok to run a 7.3L P-Stroke oil filter on our pre-stroke engines? I like the idea of buying them at Wal-Mart & the extra capacity.

Yes it is. I'm running an (I think) FL-1995 Motorcraft filter from Wal-Mart. One quart more capacity and a I think a lower micron rating.

I thought it would work since I had one on the truck when I bought it, but changed it until I found out for sure. Thanks for the verification.

Thread size is the same, gasket is the same. According to my Donaldson Filter catalog, neither have bypass valves nor anti-drain valves. Not sure about the micron rating since they only list micron ratings for their fuel filters. Although, I don't believe micron ratings vary much unless you get into synthetic media filters. It appears, from what I can see, that the powerstroke filter is just a longer version of the nonpowerstroke filter. Hopefully others will also comment.

Most of us are probably running them now. The FL-1995 seems to fit almost all the IDI's, although one or two folks have reported interference problems. It's a good idea to run one, although getting it from Walmart has its dubious nature.

A couple of my trucks they were hard to get on because a brake line was in the way to get the filter started, but so far they have fit 2 vans, one P/U and my International.

And just why would that be? The Ford Motorcrafts have worked for me from Walmart for 236,000 miles @ $5+ apiece. Last time I checked my friendly Ford dealer wanted $18 for the same filter. That of course was with my "mechanic's discount" according to the parts man.
