I had the dreaded P1000 code recently when I went for a CA smog test. I drove over 100 miles trying to clear the code and finally did by using the Ford drive cycle routine. It's now cleared but in doing so I now get a P0475 code and a SES lite. I know the P0475 code wont stop the smog check but the SES lite will. The only way to clear the SES lite is to clear the P0475 code. My dilemma now is to clear the code or not. If I clear the code will it set the P1000 all over again? In other words......does clearing codes automatically set the P1000 code.
Anyone know the answer for sure?:|

Clearing the codes should "reset" the PCM, and that means all the readiness tests won't be done. Here is a link I found, it may help:

I take it that you mean that it will not complete all the monitor test and set the P1000 again? Yes, that's the drive cycle I did to clear the original P1000 code.

Yup. Clearing the codes, puts the PCM "back to start" and it has to see a number of "drive cycles" with no issues.

I had ro clear the codes and start over with the P1000 code. I did the Ford drive cycle over and it finally cleared the P1000 but again it set the P0475 code and the ses lite. I read about putting a 470 ohm resistor on the bpv harness and it worked........sort of. It didn't eliminate the P0475 but it did extinguish the ses lite. Without the P1000 and ses lite it finally passed CA smog. I put back my supertuner (tow safe) and the ses lite still stays off. I'm good now.......for another 2 years.:smile2:

Yes, I know the answer for sure. Clearing codes sets the P1000 code. The P1000 code stays until all monitors are run. Once they are all run that code clears, and if no issues are found, no other code is set. If an issue is found that code is set at the same time the P1000 clears.

The purpose of the P1000 code is to prevent a vehicle with a problem that would cause a failure of the emissions testing from passing by just clearing the codes. This wasn't Ford's idea, the EPA mandates how this code works.

Thanks Mark. Yes that's what I found out....... the hard way. I kept clearing the codes and setting the P1000 all over again.
