The other day my truck completely shut down while driving about 30mph, no warning or chugging/surging. Would not restart, just cranked. Luckily my brother lives two streets down, he towed me home which was about a 1/4 mile. My Edge says its got a P2284 code, description below. I let the truck sit for about an hour and went to restart due to my curiosity. It started up after about 3 seconds and seemed to lack fuel but then it caught and idled fine. I let it idle and warm up to op temp. Thought I'd try it again so I took it down the road. Got about a 1/4 away and it died while at 30mph. This time it restarted but ran very bad, I limped it back to the house in what I think was limp mode. I let is sit for a day because I was angry because I (myself) just did the oil cooler 1k ago. Now it will start but it seems to be missing really bad like its going to blow up or rattle apart. I unplugged the icp, but no change to symptoms. Checked all the fuel lines to the fuel bowl, all snug. At a loss of direction because there are not many threads that show a code p2284 as a problem.

New oil and filters 1k ago, new fuel filter in the secondary fuel housing 2k ago. 1k ago I replaced the oil cooler and ipr due to oil and coolant mixture. Ran fine for 1K and now this.....please help

P2284 - ICP Injector control pressure sensor circuit range/performance A difference in commanded versus actual injection oil pressure was detected.

What kind of filters are you using?

I'm using Motorcraft filters for oil and fuel. Just a thought about the IPR, when it was bad the truck would not fire at all, just crank and crank. At least it will fire, but not idle correctly. Can I elliminate the IPR as a problem? I'm also running rotella syn 5/40 and from what I've read, that's good to running in Texas. Maybe the heat has something to do with it! We are setting records down south.....Projected to be 105 today!!! Thanks for the quick reply Speedrcr78 and deiselmac.

After an oil cooler job, it is possible that it is the IPR. It is common to not be able to get the system completely clean from debris and for that to later take out the IPR. However, if it is a bad IPR, it is more common for them to cause a no-start hot OR cold (ie once it fails and causes a no-start, it will not re-start).

I would think that it is more likely that you have a leak in the HPO system.

You need to monitor IPR duty cycle and ICP (pressure or volts). After that, if you are getting high IPR duty cycle numbers, then you can do an air pressure test.

It is less likely to be the HPOP IMO.

Thanks bismic. I'll have to get a live data scanner first to monitor the ICP and IPR. I hope its not the IPR again and is something simple. But, replacing the IPR would be less than the HPOP. I'll hopefully check it on Friday and post my findings.
