If you had the recall done when they reflash the truck with the updated software to prevent your truck from shutting down when an EGT sensor goes bad then I'd just drive it. You can also just spend the $40 and buy the sensor and change it yourself in 2 minutes.

Yes you may be under warranty but $40 isn't bad to not have to deal with dropping the truck off.

Another option would be to buy the sensor, change it out yourself and bring the defective one to the dealer and have them warranty that. Then you can keep the new warranty sensor in the truck as a spare.

P249F. I had this one on mine. Was EGT12 that needed replacing. I first brought to the dealer, they couldn't pinpoint the problem, just reset the cel, charged me $100 diags, and sent me on my way. I ordered new sensor, swapped it out, and been fine ever since. I have 3 more to replace the others, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

P249F - Excessive Time To Enter Closed Loop DPF Regeneration Control


Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the diesel particulate filter to determine that closed-loop control of a regeneration event occurs within a reasonable amount of time. This DTC sets if time in closed-loop operation is less than an expected threshold.
Possible Causes: Damaged EGT12 sensor
Fuel injection concern
Damaged diesel oxidation catalyst
Biased diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
Damaged diesel particulate filter pressure sensor

All GO to Pinpoint Test RC .

 

So is it true that with the latest update my truck won't shut down if a sensor goes bad? I have 110,000 miles on my 13 f250 and I'm thinking about changing all four sensors, but if it won't strand me I'll just keep a spare in the truck.
