I have recently bought a programmer for my 97 7.3liter and there seems to be a problem with the port where it plugs in.
The program uploads to the PCM but won't finish with the final sequence (key on/off), it gives a interuption error.
I've also had a code reader hooked up and unless you keep wiggling the plug in it, too won't run through the whole sequence.
Is my plug in shot or is there something wrong with my PCM

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a physical inspection of the diagnostic plug. Look for pins that may be bent in the plug or wires on the back that may be damaged.
