what are the best upgrades avalible for this engine? I understand that there not powerhouse's but I want to get more grunt out of this old girl, but dont have the cash for a turbo, what else is going to give me the most amount of power? I do plan on daily driving the truck and mud bogging it to.

Re-gearing will give you better acceleration, but no one thing or group of things will give you an increase anywhere near a turbo. Most modifications will net very little without the turbo to get more AIR into the motor.

If your ruling out a turbo, then headers, propane, water injection, and bigger exhaust and air intake is all you can do, which might net you 20HP.

just fyi, these trucks are heavy, i also mudrace mine. they will sink to the bottom QUICK! i wheel mine alot also, does great on the trails. i have been to tellico, and the badlands with it. next week we are headin to haspin acres. gona be fun.

for trails and rocks, the motor is perfect stock. bump the idle up to 900 rpm and idle over everything. pisses off the other guys in my club.

Haspin is alot of fun. We were up there last week with about 300 three wheelers having our international trikefest.

But one thing to look at that is quite inexpensive is a ram air wich you could also have be your snorkel

I see you got my link 4x4forlife! As cowkiller said, they're front end heavy, but not impossible in the mud. I've had a blast around Michigan in mine. Performance is the old standard, more air and fuel in, more air out.

Or just do an electrical mod to allow you to manually control your high idle solenoid, and "bump" the idle up at will.

I have an 86 F-350. Where can I go to find turbos and other performance upgrades for my 6.9? I have been looking all over the place, but all I can find is mid-90's and up powerstroke upgrades. Nothing for my little old 6.9. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.
