I have a 3:55 rear end sitting here that I gredaded the yoke on two years ago. whats odd is it has the U-bolts over the U-joint, not the straps with two bolts like almost every other truck I have seen. any one know why this one has this style yoke, and if the strap style yoke will fit on it??? its said to be out of a '97 350 single wheel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

if anyone has a spare yoke around let me know.

reason I asked was that the U-joint from the strap style is narrower then the U-bolt style. Napa couldnt find any diffence in them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif it doesnt sit in there right.

The 1310 series u-joint measures approximately 3 1/4 inches wide. The 1330 and 1350 both measure approximately 3 5/8 wide. The 1310 and 1330 series can have cap diameters of 1 1/16 and/or 1 1/8 inch or a combination of both sizes. The 1350 series has a cap diameter of 1 3/16 inch and the body and journals are bigger than the 1310 or 1330. Remember 1350 is almost never found in production car driveshafts.

A common mistake that is made when measuring is to measure the rear u-joint caps instead of measuring the pinion yoke. This is most common on Ford rear ends where a 1 1/8 inch cap diameter is found at the yoke saddles. Unfortunately someone has installed a u-joint with 1 1/16 inch caps. Always measure the pinion yoke.

good info.

I guess when I said smaller I ment narrower. the caps fit, there the right size, just didn't come all the way out to the small tab on the outer edge of the yoke.

I used the U-joint that was in my truck, and when I put it in the 3:55 rearend that yoke was wider, so the straps didnt hit the middle of the caps, they hit the outer edge, and inturn blew out the bottoms of the caps, near the seals.
