So i just picked up a 1997 F250XL 2wd 7.3 turbo diesel with 220,000 on it for cheep. But the resin it was cheep is do to a starting problem that it has. first off let me say i have done a bunch of reading on "hard starting problems" (this is by far best info form i have come across) but i fell my issue is a little different then others. Do to my truck will start and run just fine all day with no idling or dieing out issues of any sort. there is no check engine light, the tack works at all times. With a long crank over the oil gauge will jump up like it should etc. But then when i shout it off and leave it for a few mines. When i come back and try to start it up it just turns over with no firing. i tried to use starter fl and it makes the truck fire for a 1/2sec but as soon as i let go of the key it dose not stay running. now when this happens i can leave the truck for about 2-3 hrs and come back to it and it will start up and run just fine? my first guess was the battery's so i put 2 red top optima in it. still didn't do the trick next i tried a new cam position sensor thinking the recall had not been done still not it. i don't want to just keep trying stuff with out telling my story because that could make my cheep truck a very expensive one fast!!!!! I'm new to diesels but do know gas engines well. I thank anyone for any info they may give me. the more inputs the better.
PS: the truck is bone stock with the exception of a K&N drop in replacement air filter
