Can someone tell me what is involved in rebuilding it? Spins one tire in the snow now and that didn't used to happen

your symptom is not a tell-all for the posi being toast. do you have new or aggressive tires? if one has a good bite you will still spin the other. to be sure its "broke" jack up the rear and put it in neutral and spin the tire by hand, if they both go the same way its still "working" if one tire goes one way and the opposite one the other, its totally broke.
I know mine is weaker than it used to be, but its not real effective on our heavy trucks.

Try easing the parking brake on when you experience one wheel spinning. Sometimes the limited slip doesn't respond if there is too little resistance on the wheel that is slipping. Application of the brake can sometimes make it sense the loss of traction.

Second what he says. The factory unit is not heavy or high mileage service. With that said though mine worked well until I got my injectors and put it to use on dry pavement too many times. The other note of that though is that it is neat as hell when a 7k truck has the nuts to get itself sideways on the dry stuff.

As a last ditch effort, change the oil and do not add any friction modifier. The modifier is actually to make it slip, so the ls doesn't chatter in parking lot manuvers. If it is worn it won't chatter anyway. Try changing the oil and not adding any.
