So I am wanting to decrease my fuel dependancy. I am going to be using some WVO - and don't have the time nor resources at the moment to setup a reactor. I do have a 100 gallon fuel tank in my bed. I am planning on using that as my mixing container.

20 gallons filtered/dewatered WVO
80 gallons diesel
1 bottle marvel mystery oil

putting in the diesel first then pouring in the WVO. Then putting in the MMO. I will drive around with it in the tank for a week letting it mix properly. Then open the spigot that will drain into my front tank that will have diesel in it. I will let the aux tank drip feed the front tank until it is empty. Then I will redo the entire process with the aux tank.

I won't run this during the winter - only for the next 3 months. Hopefully towards winter I will have time to make a Bio-Processor.

Would anyone reccomend something different? (Let me clarify - I don't want to hear don't use WVO - I want to hear what you would do differently or what you think I should mix in my AUX tank with the WVO and diesel.)

I truly appreciate any input. My bro is over there now and I want to do something to decrease my personal oil use.

I would recommend a dual tank setup over a single mixed tank. Have you big tank be your veggie and have your truck's fuel tank be diesel. Pick up an electronic switch so that you can start and stop on diesel. Works much better IMO

1) Ignore the guy who is talking about 'polymerization' and 'wet stacking'. He's running a 6.0 which means he's got crappy injectors that are most likely letting his WVO flow right into his crankcase. 'Wet-stacking' occurs when you let your truck sit around and idle for eons on end. It can occur with WVO, BioDiesel, or diesel.

2) Put your engine in your sig... (unless I missed it among all those other letters I didn't understand). If you have a '96, I assume you have a 7.3L PSD (first iteration).

3) I think I understand what you are doing... you want to use the aux tank in your truck, and want to do your mixing in there. If you are doing 20 Gallons WVO and 80 Gallons Diesel, you are talking about a 20% mix of WVO to Diesel. Before I converted my truck to run on 100% WVO, I was cutting my diesel with up to a 25% blend of WVO. I only did it for a summer (in the hottest part of the summer), and had no ill-effects. Other folks have gone with a higher percentage of WVO, but I never had enough cojones to try it. (Not because I thought the engine would choke, but because I didn't want to fry a fuel pump or clog up a stock fuel filter).

Make sure that you are getting a good mixture between the two (so as not to kill your stock fuel pump).... make double-sure that you have filtered your oil down to at least 5 microns (individual opinions may vary), and make TRIPLE sure that you have properly dewatered your oil.

For further advice on cutting your diesel with WVO, go seek out/search out posts made by 'firemediceric'. He seems to be the local expert on that arena.

(I wonder if his neighbors know he's famous on TDS?)

Thank you for the responses.

First I am proposing a dual tank setup. My truck being a "96 CC F350 SRW" (1996 Crew Cab F-350 Single Rear Wheel) truck has a front and rear tank. I plan on starting and stopping on the rear tank - and only running on the fron tank which will be the mixed tank.

Halitosis is correct. Aux tank used to mix. Rear tank is diesel. Front tank will start as diesel and will be drip fed the mixed fuel as I drive. I have that part all worked out. My question is this mixture ok?

20 gallons filtered/dewatered WVO
80 gallons diesel
1 bottle marvel mystery oil

I am planning on the 20% range - is the marvel mystery oil ok? Or would you reccomend adding a different ingredient in its place?

You don't need a lot of time to make biodiesel.

There are automated processors out there. Load chemicals, push button, come back in 2 days for a batch of fuel.

Pretty easy.

Much better than damaging your engine with svo

Sounds like a good mix to me. I run 100% wvo in my truck in the summer, and have mixed 50/50 in the winter before adding a heating setup. I have a 6.9 IDI which supposedly produces less heat than a 7.3 PSD, so you may think about adding heated fuel lines and a tank heater down the line to switch to 100% wvo yourself. Having tanks in the bed helps alot if you paint them black and park in the sun.

Thank you for the comments. I do not have the time nor resources (ie space) to produce my own bio-diesel. Trust me, when I can I will be making my own fuel. Until then, I want to do something to cut my oil usage.

I am planning on adding a heater wrap for the filter when I work on the electrical system later this month. That will help a little bit - but that's pretty much all I can do right now.

Another question - when I dump the Veggie Oil in the tank for mixing would it help it mix better with diesel if it was heated? I was thinking originally to pour the 20 gallons of veggie oil in the tank and then head to the pumps and use the pressure and spray from the nozzle to help mix the fuel. But since I am going to be driving around for 1 week with the Oil and Fuel in the tank mixing - would it be better to add the oil preheated?

Why anybody would add anything dyed red to their tank is beyond me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif What do you tell highway patrol after being dipped? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I would tell them that it is Marvel Mystery Oil. And if I get a ticket then I take a bottle and a reciept to court and tell them to stuff it.

Its not the end of the world to be written a ticket - especially when you are innocent.
