So I am completing the plans for my waste veggie and motor oil setup. Simple design - hopefully. Planning on a gravity feed bag system. First oil will be prescreened (150/200 micron). I will then let the oil settle for a week. To dewater the oil I will be using a turkey fryer (http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ...ode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=turkey+fryer&noImage=0). The heated oil will then be poured into my bag setup. The bags will be double stacked and be consecutive. Pour the oil in the top of the pipe and let it gravity fall through each level. Each bag will be rated at ~80% efficiency and will be double stacked resulting in a 96% effective efficiency.

Oil will then be deemed satisfactory and be added to my aux fuel tank in the percentage stated in the thread about my Mixing formula.

I am currently looking for a filter bag supplier and will be purchasing everything else once I receive the bags. I am hoping for a Monofilament (nylon) bag so the filters will be reuseable. Basically a 17" tall tube of PVC with 7" diameter. With the filter bag placed between adjoining sections. The bottom will be capped with a on/off spout to empty into a fuel can. Pour oil in the top let it filter down. Open spout to fill can to fill my tank.

Safe system? Changes modifications? Really appreciate all the help so far.

Sorry, I can not comment on WMO blending BUT I see you ordered the Cabela's turkey fryer with the spigot. Let me know the quality of the fryer kit. I'm thinking now I may get one too.

I built a bag filter setup just like you described. The problem is when you stop running oil in one batch a little of it stays in the filter and restricts flow. I have a feeling it was the occasional partially hydrogenated oil. The end result is one or more bags starts slowing down. That meant I had to divert some of the flow or else one bag would overflow.

I ended up going to cartridge filters. My 10' tall "filtration station" was dismantled.

My plan is to use something like the cabela's. I don't have a cabela's near me but there is a sportsman wharehouse and of course the flea market. I am thinking the flea market will be cheapest, but we shall see.

I am alright with it restricting flow. My plan is to pour it in the top and then walk away and watcha movie or something. I may have 2 pipe structures in order to keep the overall heigth down for safety reasons. The bag suppliers I have email seemed to think that this would work. After filtering the oil one direction I can take it out back and pour some boiling water through the other direction to clean everything out (on compost pile).

genie--if you have any hydrogenated oil in the mix--and you heat it up--it will go right thru the filters--then harden after it cools--and if that gets in your tanks--youll plug filters big time!!!!!!!! i just seperate the oils at start--by carefully pouring the oil off the top of whatever its coming out of----then stop when you hit the "white" stuff---then i filter it thru a 20--10---5 micron stage--and have no problems--also by pouring it off the way i do--the water and other crud stay at the bottom of the container--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I was planning on prescreening the oil when I get it at the super high level (150-200 micron). And then letting it sit in 5 gallon jugs for a week or more to seperate out. That will then be poured carefully into the turkey fryer to warm up before the final filtration process. That should eliminate the hydrogenated oil and get rid of any water left over.

Are you using bags - if so what kind felt or monofilament?

Genie, The only thing you may also want to do is put a 100 micron silk filter inside of your top 50 micron. The 100 will grab most crap and not plug your 50 as fast.

We have the same setup except we go

And it works great. Let the oil sit for a week or 2 so everything settles out and then just pour in off the top. We use the same setup for WMO. The highest mix we have gone is a little more than 50/50. Only noticeable difference is a little more blue smoke which is expected

VegieDiesel:

What type of bags do you use? Felt or monofilament(nylon)? I haven't heard of a silk filter - where do you get it and is it reuseable?

I plan on only using the WMO that comes out of my personal vehicles. I will keep the non-diesel additives to 30% of my mix. So maybe 20% WVO 10% WMO close to oil change.

Appreciate all the feedback.

I misspoke before I was thinking how to describe its texture but did not work too well, The 100 micron is a nylon filter and the rest are Felt. We get everything off ebay. Let me know if you want a pic. Within the next few days the 6.9l gets its blood changed so I'll run WMO for a bit.
