The driver's side mirror works up and down, and out, but not in. Can anyone shed some light on this? Motor? Switch?

Try disassembly, clean, lube, praying and resembling...
Sounds like it's shot or sliding down the slippery slope towards the garbage can.

This & the NEXT pic & their captions show how to remove the mirror glass:

Once it's off, you can examine the motors & the swivel, and check voltage at the motor when commanding "IN". Subsequent pics show how to remove & disassemble the motor pack, and how it's wired...

Thanks, guys. The mirror does not pop off, that I can tell. I had checked my shop service manuals and they gave no instructions for disassembly. They listed a variety of tests and removal instructions. I traced down the wires in the door, checked condition and voltage, put it back together, and it works. Amazing.

All mirrors are removable. Did you study those pics & their captions? You'll need to know when that one stops working again.

Thanks, Steve. I was looking at your pics on my iPhone and they weren't that clear. I'll look at them on my pc and they may be more informative. When I rotated the mirror all the way in, I did see 4 star headed screws that appeared to hold the mirror to the back of the housing. It would take a special bent star headed tool to get them out.

I'd wager that your problem is in the mirror switch rather than the motors in the mirror. They're controlled by reversing the polarity, so if it works one direction, the motor is good. The switch contacts do get dirty, corroded, etc. causing the partial failure you're seeing. A new mirror switch was about $16 for the 99-03 trucks. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same switch for your newer truck.

Yes, my photos are far friendlier to a PC & a fullsize monitor.
