The pump is buried at the bottom of the engine. The reservoir for the power steering pump is the square tank mounted on the drivers side fender behind the battery. I use trans fluid that I had left over from my 02 (Mercron V I think it is but you should be able to use any ATF). Why do you think you are having steering issues? It is normal to hold your foot on the brakes and not have power steering. This happens because the power steering pump drives the power assist for the steering and brakes. This, while it is a problem, is normal for most diesel trucks. ...or is it starting to wine?

good luck,
mark

Hello, folks

What do you mean swerve going down the highway? I think that mine does this. And I also think that I have to have a lot of foot pressure on the brake pedal. Which I think is a lot in fact the wife noticed, problem is that I bought the truck this way and dont know any differnt.

Back to the highway thing, when I hit bumps and such, the truck will take off one way or the other. Kinda makes ya a little nervous.

The power steering seems to work fine but every once in a while if I turn the wheels fast it seems to not keep up.

Oh yea sorry to steal your thread but this is the first I have seen of this and I am not sure that it is the same.

Any Ideas from the gallery.

thanks
Clint

I have a good power steering leak and can't find out where it is coming from. Replaced the hose from the power steering pump to the booster and still leaking. Looks like the actual power steering pump is leaking, because power steering fluid is dripping off of the bottom of the pump. Going to look at purchasing the pump tomorrow, how much work is it to change?

I removed the battery, airbox, altenator, intercooler tube and then the bracket that the pump and alternator hook up to. that way I had room to remove the pulley w/out going crazy.

took me about 2 hours give or take 15 minutes to complete the job.

just went up and bought the power steering pump, and now it isn't leaking anymore. I guess there was some residual fluid on the frame and front end that was dripping that I didn't pick up on. Now I get to take the pump back.

I would wait a couple days. See if it comes back.
