Anybody ever heard of these? And are they any good? Thanks for all the help.

I've used 3 of them and just ordered another 3. I put 5K miles on each.
I will be receiving my first oil analysis since I've used them in a day or two.
I have their bypass system on as well and figured that Oil Guard should know how to construct a good primary filter.

From what I can tell they are exactly the same as the Mobil 1 filters. I ordered some but only used one and then found that the threads are not cleaned and there was metal hairs in the threads. The Mobil1s were the same way. Napa filters appear to clean the thread plate so I am using those. I do not want metal hairs getting sucked in the engine and embedded in the bearings.

Let me introduce you guys to the Fleetguard LF3974 with Stratapore media... Stratapore is a multi layered synthetic media that filters large particles in the top layer, medium size particles in middle layer, and down to around 25 Micron particles in the innermost bottom layer. The multi layering allows large flowrates with great filtration. Fleetguards are considered a PREMIUM filter in the heavy duty engine industry and they are the "shiznit"! You can find them at saveonfilters.com or most heavy duty truck dealerships. Usually cost $13-16

Hammer,

Is that Fleetguard # a replacement for the Motorcraft FL-1995?

25 microns? That seems large. I have common automotive type filters that I pump oil out of barrels with that filters down to 10 microns. I use FL1995 Motocraft filters on my PSD. Don't know what micron level they filter to, does anyone? 106

I forget the exact Fleetguard part number but there is a "lesser" version from fleetguard that uses regular cellulose media that is considered a direct replacement to Motorcraft's FL-1995. The LF3974 is Fleetguard's premium upgrade with Stratapore media and the LF-9027 is Fleetguards version with a "venturi style" built in bypass filter element.

Dale, it appears that saveonfilters is linked to powerstrokeshop but powerstrokeshop does not link to it. Also, if they are the same why are the same filters ~$3 more on powerstrokeshop? I need to order a AIS filter and I do not want to order from two places but I do not want to pay more for the oil filters either.

LF3630 is the Non-Stratpore version

For the non-bypass filter setup people I would recommend the Venturi over the Stratapore. The Venturi gets you the Stratapore and a By-pass/Full flow element for just a few bucks more.

Along with recommending you order your filters from Dale who provides a great service I would like to make a couple of comments on this filtering stuff ....

1. For the stock spin on location there might be a small advantage in using some of the synthetic material filters such as the Mobil 1 and some of the FG stratapores. However, in general the standard paper ones do a great job for the "chunkies" as I call them.

2. If you want "by pass" level filtering I would not waste my money on the dual FG filter but get a real bypass filter such as the Amsoil, OG, whatever. Only with those will you be addressing the under 5 to 6 micron bearing type wear material filtering.

Oil Analysis will not tell you anything about how well whatever oil filtering setup is doing ... they typically throw out all wear materials over 5 microns and do not tell you anything about what is left over particle size. OA is only good for general engine wear and for identifying potential/impending problems such as a big time bearing problem mainly in these engines from the turbo and other "gross" level problems.

Dale,

Thanks a ton for the stratapore specs! Can you post the specs on the lf9027 venturi combo filter for us?

I don't doubt that a conventional bypass will do a better job than the venturi by itself (ask Hammer) but for an additional $3 over the FG stratapore filter, I can pay the extra $ for a lot of venturi's for the cost of a conventional bypass setup (and additional filters). I'm wondering if it would be a happy medium (in price and performance) between stock cellulose filters and a full blown bypass setup.

Long complicated story but the short version is we will honor saveonfilters pricing on case by case basis only for now. Just give us a call and we can process the order for you at the lower price listed on saveonfilters.com.

I will get that tomorrow and post it once I get a chance to scan it in.

As for Larry's comments sure a full system is going to provide a better over all approach but this is an option for those do not want to wrap a few hundred dollars into running new lines etc.
