It's all about Not walking.
- EarlT

1) Which engine parts Fail with little or No notice?

2) I would rather spend the winter changing parts,
in my Garage,
than pay a Tow bill, in the middle of nowhere.

3) Which parts would you change,
to keep it running,
and keep you from Walking?

4) Change parts at how many engine Miles?

Water pump, fuel lift pump, and rebuild the oil cooler would be my big 3 suggestions. Any of those will have you stranded or leave you major engine damage if they fail while you're on the road.

Secondary level would be changing the vacuum pump, since if that fails you will have much less braking power, but you won't be stranded somewhere dangerous, you'll just have to plan your stops much earlier.

My experiences are as follows;
Batterys, I replace both, every 36 months, without fail! does not matter if they "test" good/bad.
Lift pumps, about 60,000 miles
U joints last about 60,000 miles, alarming noises
Serpentine belt pulleys, something will fail every 80,000 miles. new pulley parts=new belt
Power steering gear box, gave out at 200,000 miles, no warning, fluid drained faster than coule be replaced
Water pump at 260,000, but gave me tons of warning.
I keep GP's on board, but the last set of Beru's have lasted 48 months, yes I have replaced a few along the way
